# Welcome to Splinterlands

Started in mid 2018, Splinterlands is the original NFT trading card game.

<figure><img src="/files/q2vcnGVd3sN1UiNJ6RRy" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

[Splinterlands](https://splinterlands.com) is a unique digital trading card game that allows players to truly own their cards and other in-game assets. Thanks to web 3.0 technology powered by the Hive blockchain, each card in Splinterlands is a non-fungible token (NFT) owned by a player. That means players can do anything they want with their cards, including battling for rewards, holding them as collectibles, trading on the peer-to-peer market, combining to level up, or even *burning* to obtain [Dark Energy Crystals (DEC)](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/8844212285076-What-is-DEC) or [Glint](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/24964751942548-Glint-Rewards-Shop-FAQ).

The game was founded by blockchain innovators who shared a mutual frustration with mainstream digital trading card games that stemmed from players losing ownership of their assets when trading card games went digital. The companies who actually own the cards that players are supposed to "own" themselves can withhold information, reprint cards as often as they'd like, or even wholly delete a player's collection based on inactivity or a violation of terms. Through the power of blockchain, Splinterlands solves these problems by making digital trading cards transparent, scarce, and actually *owned* by the players who own them.

With hundreds of unique cards, Splinterlands is a brilliantly designed and fast-paced trading card game that allows its players to *earn by playing (P2E).* Unlike more traditional TCGs like Magic: The Gathering, and Pokemon, Splinterlands battles are fast, with each match taking only 2-3 minutes. Rather than turn-based action in which every move is carefully and slowly controlled, Splinterlands' main mechanic is a *drafting* style. Once an opponent is found, each player assembles a team of up to 6 cards from their Splinterlands collection. Then according to a unique set of rules that make every match different, the battle is played out automatically in a quick, action-packed format that allows players to learn from both victory and defeat.

Splinterlands is a strategist's dream, beloved by one of the largest and most loyal followings in the play-to-earn industry. It is translated into nearly a dozen languages and played in over 100 countries worldwide. Each day, thousands of cards are traded for thousands of dollars on the [market](https://next.splinterlands.com/market/card-sales). Join the fight at [Splinterlands.com](http://Splinterlands.com).

# Summoner's Spellbook

<figure><img src="/files/FbyZSr2hKSFeGFzbQCgp" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**The Summoner's Spellbook: Forging Your Legacy in Praetoria**

Your journey in Praetoria begins for free ([F2P](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/13828920250388-Free-to-Play-Splinterlands-Account)), a path open to all. But the **Summoner's Spellbook** is more than an item - it's the key to a legendary destiny, the power of true ownership, the thrill of trading, and the promise of full earning potential. This is the artifact that transforms a simple wanderer into a true champion.

## The Path of the Unbound: A Free Start

Even without the Spellbook, a new player can dive deep into the action. Your first step is the [**Campaign Mode**](https://splinterlands.com/campaign/), where you'll learn the game basics and fight battles to earn your first [**Foundations Set** ](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/6538474099732-Campaign-Mode-Foundations-Set)**cards**. These cards are your entry to the next stage of your journey.

<figure><img src="/files/D2vewLCYMWTZYXnwfBhr" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* [**Frontier Mode**](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/6538474099732-Campaign-Mode-Foundations-Set): After earning your first cards in Campaign Mode, the doors to Frontier Mode swing open. This is your proving ground - a new world to explore and test your skills. Each day, by winning just five battles, you can earn valuable daily rewards, including **Foundations cards** or **Foundations packs**, depending on your league. Prove your might on the battlefield and climb the ranks of the Frontier leaderboards to win even more of these coveted packs. While your journey begins for free, these rewards can become yours forever once you acquire the Spellbook.

<figure><img src="/files/r3r6n6tr79ScuVHWvLMa" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* **A Glimpse of Modern Mode & Tournaments**: To truly step into the competitive scene, you must first prove your worth by completing **100 Frontier battles** or claiming the Spellbook’s power. Only after meeting one of these conditions can you join the ranks of **Modern Mode** and begin to participate in **Tournaments**.

<figure><img src="/files/LgQ917UzavZYijd4YaBC" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* **Begin to Strategize**: Combine your cards, receive delegations from your allies, and join a **Guild** to learn the meaning of true teamwork.

However, your path is limited without the Spellbook. Your rewards are bound to your account, and the full riches of the Splinterlands economy remain beyond your grasp.

## The Power of the Spellbook: Claim Your Destiny

<figure><img src="/files/Ayd2JnHwziWGBOWEX8Ss" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

For a one-time cost of just **$10**, the Spellbook is bound to your account, granting you the power to:

* **Unlock the Full Hive Ecosystem**: Your **Summoner's Spellbook** not only grants you access to Praetoria's full potential, but it also creates a fully verified **Hive blockchain account**. This account name is your digital identity, your wallet address and your username for all Hive dApps. Choose it wisely, for this name is permanent and cannot be changed. This is the key that enables you to truly own and control your assets, not just within Splinterlands but across the entire Hive ecosystem.
* **Full Marketplace Access**: Your cards and packs from Frontier Mode and beyond can now be **traded, sold, and transferred**. **Soulbound Reward cards**, earned in Modern and Wild or purchased with Glint, can also be made tradable by paying an [unbinding fee](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/29309050334356-Soulbound-Cards-Unbinding-FAQ).
* **Access the Highest Ranks**: Play in the advanced **Modern,** **Wild** and **Survival** modes, where the greatest legends are forged. Note that Wild mode requires a [**Wild Pass**](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/27296621961876-Wild-Pass-FAQ) each season.
* **Enter Tournaments:** The Spellbook is your key to participating in all **Tournaments**, where you can prove your skill and win grand prizes.
* [**Earn SPS**](https://docs.splinterlands.com/splintershards-sps): You gain the right to earn **SPS**, Splinterlands' core utility and governance token.
* **Receive a Hero's Welcome**: You'll be rewarded with **3,000 Credits** (or **3,500 Credits** with a referral), **5 Conclave Arcana Starter Packs**, and a **30-day SPS battle rewards boost**.

<figure><img src="/files/hVpk4eN6GWpZeI3TZ9oX" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The Spellbook is your key to moving beyond a simple traveler and becoming a legendary warrior in the Splinterlands.

## Start Free. Upgrade to Power.

Splinterlands gives you a taste of ownership in Frontier Mode, but if you’re ready to **rise beyond the basics**, the **Summoner’s Spellbook** is your key to becoming a true champion.

# Modern & Wild Ranked Battles

### What is the Difference Between Modern & Wild? <a href="#what-is-the-difference-between-modern-and-wild" id="what-is-the-difference-between-modern-and-wild"></a>

In Splinterlands, there are two different formats for ranked gameplay: Wild Ranked Battles & Modern Ranked Battles. Although the gameplay mechanics do not vary between formats, the cards available to play within each format differ. Wild format allows all cards to be used, Modern format is limited to the two more recent sets. By splitting Splinterlands Gameplay into two formats, players may select the most appropriate format for their card collection.

* *Review* [*Modern and Wild: FAQ*](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/12752539982484-Modern-and-Wild-FAQ) *for additional details.*

### Card Frames <a href="#card-frames" id="card-frames"></a>

With so many cards and sets, telling them apart can be daunting. Thankfully, each set and the associated reward and promo cards possess a unique frame. Eventually, you will be able to distinguish between cards from various sets at a glance.

<figure><img src="/files/StyDa77Xbm7HdoyRJT6o" alt=""><figcaption><p><em>Chaos Legion and Rebellion cards have Set Icons embedded in their frames.</em><br></p></figcaption></figure>

### Battle Format

Players who own or rent newer cards might prefer the Modern format. As only cards from more recent editions are playable in this format, players don’t need to worry about competing against older cards that may be difficult to acquire due to scarcity. This makes gameplay more fair for newer players by providing a level playing field.

On the other hand, veteran players with a more diverse collection that may include Alpha & Beta cards may enjoy playing in the Wild format, where all cards from all sets are playable. Balancing strategies across a wide selection of cards can provide a unique set of challenges for Wild players.

Of course, players are free to choose whichever format best fits their card collection & play style and can toggle between one format and the other whenever they want.

<figure><img src="/files/sBepmt00FEqlz4llba3b" alt=""><figcaption><p>Click Modern or Wild to choose the desired format to play</p></figcaption></figure>

### Rewards

[Season Rewards](https://docs.splinterlands.com/rewards/season-rewards) can be earned by playing in Modern and Wild battle formats, thus allowing players to earn [Glint](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/24964751942548-Glint-Rewards-Shop-FAQ) from either format. Additionally, each respective battle format has its own individual [Leaderboard Rewards](https://docs.splinterlands.com/rewards/leaderboard-rewards).

### Display

On all game screens that show player avatars, the avatar frame will be colored depending on the player’s highest current league between the Modern & Wild formats. Example: If a player is Bronze II in Modern but Silver III in Wild, they will have the Silver avatar frame. The one exception to this rule is the Battle History screen, which shows avatar frames based on whether the screen is toggled to look at Modern data or Wild data:

# Types of Cards

These are the various types of Splinterlands cards.

# Summoners

Summoners are a necessity for any playable Splinterlands collection.

Before Unit selection, players must first select a Summoner. These powerful cards buff (or help) your team, debuff (or hurt) your opponent's team, or grant abilities. Some summoners require you to select individual Units to buff, debuff, or grant abilities to before the first round of the battle. Your selected Summoner will call forth Units from their element(s) for team selection. Only one summoner may be selected per battle and will fill the *Your Summoner* slot in your lineup as indicated by the green box below.

<figure><img src="/files/naZ9hSqypYwF5TocjjJI" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### **Components of Summoners include:** <a href="#the-components-of-summoners-include" id="the-components-of-summoners-include"></a>

* [Rarity](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/card-rarities): The scarcity and relative strength of cards.
  * *There are four rarities: Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary.*
* [Mana Cost](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/card-stats/mana-cost): The numerical amount of Mana required to call a Unit to battle.
* Buffs/Debuffs: Increases or decreases to the [Stats](https://splinterlands.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/SP/pages/29393301) of Units on their or opposing teams.
* [Abilities](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/card-stats/abilities): Special skills that Summoners may grant to Units.
* [Element](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/card-stats/splinter): Summoners belong to one or two specific Elements (Fire, Water, Earth, Life, Death, or Dragon) or are Neutral.
* [Card Level & Base Card Experience (BCX)](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/combining-cards): The strength of a card can be increased by combining copies of that same card into it.

<figure><img src="/files/DJ2H2zAUJSGZr08O61rv" alt=""><figcaption><p><a href="https://next.splinterlands.com/card-detail/646/regular/12?tab=for-rent"><em>Nomos</em></a> <em>is a Rare Summoner from the Rebellion Set</em></p></figcaption></figure>

&#x20;

### **Summoners of Note** <a href="#summoners-of-note" id="summoners-of-note"></a>

While many Summoners are quite straightforward, certain Summoners warrant a more detailed explanation.

#### **Dragon Summoners** <a href="#hardbreak-dragon-summoners" id="hardbreak-dragon-summoners"></a>

Dragon Summoners grant players access to Dragon Units and one other element. After choosing a Dragon Summoner, you will be prompted to select an additional element.

<figure><img src="/files/HDMJmJcM0QTshB0hhBzO" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

&#x20;

#### **Neutral Summoner** <a href="#neutral-summoner" id="neutral-summoner"></a>

The only neutral Summoner in existence, [Lux Vega](https://next.splinterlands.com/card-detail/506/regular/2?tab=for-rent), grants players access to Neutral Units and one other element. As with Dragon Summoners, you will be prompted to select an accompanying element after choosing Lux Vega for battle. Please note Lux Vega is not available in the Taking Sides [ruleset](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/9123215350548-List-of-Splinterlands-Rulesets).

<figure><img src="/files/hpfJ20pqF5RJ1qRHac5M" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

#### **Rebellion Summoners** <a href="#rebellion-summoners" id="rebellion-summoners"></a>

The Rebellion set introduced two new play mechanics. Summoner Tactics, and Multi-element team selection. Review [Rebellion: FAQ](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/21140104512148-Rebellion-FAQ) for additional details regarding the Rebellion set release.

**Tactics Summoners**

The Rebellion tactics Summoners grant players access to a screen where they may view their opponent’s team before the battle and decide which Units to buff, debuff, or grant abilities to.

The number of Units the boost or ability may be applied to is shown at the base of the card - as indicated by the green rectangles. For example, [Prophet Rosa](https://next.splinterlands.com/card-detail/645/regular/12/?tab=for-rent\&rent_type=daily) allows you to increase the attack of ranged Units by 2, or provide the [Shield ability](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/12431536947732-Shield) to 1 Unit.&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/vh7FoWIhs9Biez0hOVIy" alt="" width="236"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

&#x20;

**Common Multi-Element Summoners**

The common multi-element Summoners do not provide buffs, debuffs, or abilities to your team. Rather, they grant players access to two elements (and neutral Units) at a relatively low mana cost of 3. For example, [Dolfar Dorflak](https://next.splinterlands.com/card-detail/637/regular/12?tab=for-rent) grants players access to fire and death elements. **Be warned! If a specific element is excluded from a battle, multi-element summoners will NOT grant access to that element.**

<figure><img src="/files/vgguwJWNF6U0cgwaDomW" alt="" width="212"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### **Increasing the Level of Your Summoners** <a href="#increasing-the-level-of-your-summoners" id="increasing-the-level-of-your-summoners"></a>

Instead of gaining abilities and stats when leveled up, Summoners can call forth higher-level Units at each new level. Review [How to Increase Card Levels by Combining Cards](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/7670940505108-How-to-Increase-Card-Levels-by-Combining-Cards).

<figure><img src="/files/vkhMCUPrw2SAJhmW3lCh" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Unsure of where a summoner falls? Click on a summoner within the Splinterlands Market or your inventory. Next, locate the *Stats* tab. At Level 5, [Prunda Undervesch](https://next.splinterlands.com/card-detail/640/regular/12?tab=for-rent) is a Common dual-element Summoner that can call forth Level 3 Rare Units.

<figure><img src="/files/7eY43DhaG1uo68TPaPCf" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

&#x20;

# Units

Units are the cards that form a Splinterlands battle team.

Every card that is not a Summoner is classified as a Unit. While Summoners generally buff or debuff teams, Units are the foot soldiers of battle - taking damage and directly engaging with your opponent’s team. After selecting a Summoner for battle, you must select a team comprised of Units from the available elements. Your Units will fill the *Your Monsters* slots as indicated by the green box below.

<figure><img src="/files/A3mEILUmvP9lYm4kqmSJ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

All units have strengths and weaknesses. While some are useful for many situations, others are more niche and will only be called forth to play certain roles.

### **The components of Units include:**

* [Abilities](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/card-stats/abilities): Special skills that Units or Summoners possess.
* [Element](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/card-stats/splinter): Units belong to one or two specific Elements (Fire, Water, Earth, Life, Death, or Dragon) or are Neutral.
* [Stats](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/card-stats): The numerical indicators showing Speed, Strength of Attack, Health, and Armor
* [Card Level & Base Card Experience](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/combining-cards): The strength of a card can be increased by combining copies of that same card into it.

<figure><img src="/files/syM7avajSFfHG28adhCJ" alt=""><figcaption><p><a href="https://next.splinterlands.com/card-detail/618/regular/12?tab=for-rent"><em>Infernal Firestorm</em></a> <em>is an Epic Fire Unit</em></p></figcaption></figure>

# Building a Collection

## Building a Collection

Players must build their collection of cards from the various sets of cards within Splinterlands to create teams under different rulesets and battle conditions. Keep the distinction between [Ranked Play Modes](https://docs.splinterlands.com/gameplay/modern-and-wild-ranked-battles) in mind while building your collection. Though many Wild/Survival cards are powerful and enticing, they may not be used with the Modern format. Review [Sets & Editions](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/sets-editions) for a comprehensive look at the various cards Splinterlands has to offer.

### **Buying Booster Packs** <a href="#buying-booster-packs" id="buying-booster-packs"></a>

Players can purchase Booster Packs from the Conclave Arcana set using [Credits](https://docs.splinterlands.com/splinterlands-credits) or [Dark Energy Crystals](https://docs.splinterlands.com/dark-energy-crystals). There are 4 different packs:

<p align="center"><img src="/files/9srCd5f93suknTVF09on" alt=""></p>

To purchase packs, click [Splinterlands Shop](https://splinterlands.com/shop/packs) and click Conclave Arcana in the drop-down menu. You can click [Splinterlands Shop](https://splinterlands.com/shop/packs) and then Card Packs from the main navigation or on the landing page as well. You can find more details from those different packs here: [Purchasing Booster Packs | Splinterlands](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/booster-packs/purchasing-booster-packs)

<figure><img src="/files/Nr38gWGQy3iFhgf90qdt" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

[**Buying Old Sets Booster Packs** ](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/sets-editions)- Players can purchase old booster packs from the [Splinterlands](https://splinterlands.com/market/other-items) peer-to-peer market.

[**Buying Cards**](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/markets/buying-cards) - Players can purchase individual cards from the [Splinterlands](https://splinterlands.com/market/card-sales) peer-to-peer market with Dark Energy Crystals or Credits.

[**Renting Cards**](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/rentals-and-delegations/the-card-rental-system) **-** Because HIVE blockchain assets can be *delegated, meaning loaned,* to other accounts, cards can be rented using the rental marketplace at [Splinterlands](https://splinterlands.com/market/card-rentals) or third-party markets. Rented cards cannot be combined, sold, or transferred, but the renter can play them and they count toward that player's [Collection Power](https://docs.splinterlands.com/gameplay/collection-power) for tournaments.

Renting cards is an excellent way for players to increase the diversity of their playable deck.

### Archons are Key <a href="#archons-are-key" id="archons-are-key"></a>

To compete with leveled-up [*Units*](https://docs.splinterlands.com/gameplay/types-of-cards/monsters), remember that leveled-up [*Archons*](https://docs.splinterlands.com/gameplay/types-of-cards/summoners) are also needed. If you have leveled up card Units beyond your summoning capability, they will always be limited in a battle to the maximum level your archons allow. That's why it's a good idea to level up your Archons first, then level up the Unit cards to meet their summoning level.

Drafting a team is the basic mechanic of battling in Splinterlands. Players have a limited time to create a team from their card collection, then that team is sent to battle against an opponent's team.

The battle process begins when you select the Battle Format that you would like to participate in on the [*Battle page*](https://splinterlands.com/battle-history), you can choose between the [**Wild or Modern**](https://docs.splinterlands.com/gameplay/modern-and-wild-ranked-battles) battle formats.

<figure><img src="/files/V9rTmCR072SastevFI88" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Once you have made your selection, you can proceed by clicking on **Battle.**

First, you will have to wait a few moments as an appropriate opponent is found. Then you will be presented with a *Match Begins* screen that displays a countdown, the restrictions and rules of the battle, and your opponent's recent battle history. If you have selected the **Wild** battle format you will be matched with an opponent who has made the same selection, and only **Wild battles** will appear on their recently played teams display, the same applies to the **Modern** battle forma&#x74;**,** If you have selected the **Modern** battle format you will be matched with an opponent who has made the same selection, and only **Modern battles** will appear on their recently played teams display.\
\
The clock is already ticking, so after glancing at this information, accept the battle by clicking **Create Team** and you will be brought to the page where you will draft your team.

<figure><img src="/files/Xfuv9mCqF4tFju6SGNaz" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Once the drafting page appears, you'll see several things, as pictured below (for this example we have used the **Modern** battle format). On the left is your team line-up that is initially empty. On the top, you'll see the countdown timer, as well as restrictions and rulesets for the battle, and the allowed Elements. Just below are various filtration tools that will enable you to quickly sort through your collection and find the cards that you're looking for.

Finally, you'll see your playable Summoners for this battle. You must choose one to determine the units from which you can draft the rest of your lineup.

#### **Picking A Summoner**

There are 3 different summoners in-game: Standard Summoners, Dual Element Summoners and Tactic Summoners. The image below displays cards playable in the Modern battle format, If you have selected the Wild battle format, the available card selection may vary. You can view the playable cards for each selection [here](https://docs.splinterlands.com/gameplay/modern-and-wild-ranked-battles).

<figure><img src="/files/aNnJmvlMtw39u6qsxP76" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Pick a Summoner and it will fill the left **YOUR SUMMONER** space. The cards that can be summoned by that Summoner will then appear on the screen.

**Standard summoners** allow you to play with a single element and when you select it you will immediately see the cards available to choose from that element. If you pick Kelya Frendul then you will see all available Water + Neutral cards (in this case you can also see Gladiator cards because of the ruleset)

<figure><img src="/files/81OKnuSwJh6NUncI8JEj" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The exceptions in the Standard Summoners are those of the Dragon Element, where you can choose an extra element among those available and you can see the Dragon cards + the chosen element. Pick Quix The Devious + Another Element.

<figure><img src="/files/7NHEaIZmx6T5NjoV0rSC" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<br>

### **Dual Element Summoners**&#x20;

Dual Element Summoners were introduced with Rebellion Set and they allow you to play with a 2 elements (you can see both elements colors in the Card Background and the icons in the top right for the Rebellion Set) and when you select it you will immediately see the cards available to choose from that element. If you pick Prunda Undervesch then you will see all available Life + Water + Neutral cards available (in this case you can see also Gladiator cards because of the ruleset)

<figure><img src="/files/mILFgWd6m5Y83RwdTJLA" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### **Tactic Summoners**&#x20;

Tactic Summoners were introduced with Rebellion Set and they allow you to add an extra tactic step before starting the match. If you pick [Eternal Tofu](https://splinterlands.com/card-detail/656/regular/12/?tab=for-sale) then you will see the tactic screen where you can select 1 of the available tactics and the units you want to use the tactics on.

<figure><img src="/files/1Q26nUvwJ4b6bKBhIBNl" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Picking Units

One by one, pick cards to place them in the **YOUR UNITS** column. The total mana of your team must fall within the mana cap that is listed above your lineup. You can rearrange the order of the team after picking units by dragging their name to the desired slot in the **YOUR UNITS** column.

<figure><img src="/files/mjm8HvUTJ0yXXRxNaw1l" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

When selecting your battle cards, please keep in mind that the use of starter cards (available only in Modern gameplay) can affect your earning potential.

That's it! You have until the timer runs out to select your cards and click **BATTLE** to submit your team.

<figure><img src="/files/QD0AfXM8zVtrGiNGOXMP" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Watching the Battle

If you have submitted your team before your opponent has submitted theirs, you'll need to wait until they are ready. Once both players have submitted their teams you’ll be taken to the Battle screen. First, your opponent will be displayed, then the battlefield will be organized with the teams you have both submitted and the details of the battle.

<figure><img src="/files/AUSUX7VV5pfbusDa5Uvg" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Once you click the **Battle** button, the battle will begin. You can control the battle's speed by clicking the speed button.

<figure><img src="/files/0AV5E79TvNDAmxPEF5Y6" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The battle speed you select will be remembered for the next battle. You can also go back and begin the battle over, or skip to the results screen if you just can't wait to see who won.

Once you have submitted your team for battle, you can watch the battle whenever you're ready, or not at all. The timed portion of the battle is done once your team has been submitted, and the battle itself is technically a *replay* of the battle even the first time you watch it.

While watching the battle is not part of the requirements for playing the game, it is highly recommended as you can learn a lot from doing so.

# Leagues

Splinterlands' Leagues, ranging from Novice to Champion, are a visual indicator of the rating range that a player is currently in. As of the [Ranked Battle Overhaul](https://peakd.com/splinterlands/@splinterlands/splinterlands-ranked-battle-overhaul), players do not choose to advance or remain within a league; as rating increases, a player’s league will reflect the range they’re in.

### How Leagues affect general gameplay: <a href="#how-leagues-affect-general-gameplay" id="how-leagues-affect-general-gameplay"></a>

* To earn [Reward Points](https://docs.splinterlands.com/rewards/reward-shares-r-shares), you must *be at least Bronze III in either the Modern or Wild format*. For example, you can be Novice in Wild and Bronze III in Modern, and then you will be able to earn rewards from Modern battles, but not Wild battles.
* Each player can potentially earn more [Glint](https://docs.splinterlands.com/rewards/glint-rewards-shop) and [SPS](https://docs.splinterlands.com/splintershards-sps) rewards by playing in higher leagues.
* The end-of-season rating reset will continue to work as it does now, with the reset applied separately to your Modern & Wild leagues.

### Leagues of Splinterlands <a href="#leagues-of-splinterlands" id="leagues-of-splinterlands"></a>

The 6 Leagues of Splinterlands cover a wide range of collections, experience, and skills. A brand new player in their first week will find themselves in the Novice and Bronze Leagues, while the most experienced players battle it out each Season for the coveted League of Champion I.

As of the [Ranked Battle Overhaul](https://peakd.com/splinterlands/@splinterlands/splinterlands-ranked-battle-overhaul), there are no limits on card level maximums outside of what Summoner’s themselves limit, meaning a player can use higher level cards in lower leagues. This will cause them to advance quickly, until they reach a rating where their current cards are the most competitive.

Rewards increase as players move higher up in Leagues, as does the complexity of strategies used and the difficulty of the competition.

<figure><img src="/files/PZNHhciyxEsBVQd3LcIz" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/i2yi1dfpWtI5IQhPCrhc" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

***

## Advancing in Leagues/Tiers

Additionally, you will receive rewards the first time each season you reach a new league tier. These rewards increase with each league level.

<figure><img src="/files/FNEn5felhzIx17kRCOZD" alt=""><figcaption><p>Advancing to Champion League - Tier 1</p></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/IZ1a6WNyZojQ5r2VVsqG" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

*(Note: the examples below show Modern Leagues, Wild Leagues will be identical)*

## Wood

The Wood League is the starting place for every new account. Every battle in this League is given the Standard ruleset alone. To earn Season rewards, a player must rise above the Wood League. Once a player has advanced from Wood league they are unable to go back.

<figure><img src="/files/fGbLuA7FJBo9H6w3sOLi" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Bronze <a href="#bronze" id="bronze"></a>

Bronze is the first League that implements rulesets. In the Bronze League, players start earning Glint and SPS rewards. Earnings are low as it is the lowest league to play in.

<figure><img src="/files/PMXhJSkQWT1sngpP2nw3" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Silver <a href="#silver" id="silver"></a>

The Silver League is one of the most played entry-level leagues, with Glint and SPS earnings slightly higher.

<figure><img src="/files/2N7SeGsMc7JZ7zgn6F0N" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Gold <a href="#gold" id="gold"></a>

The Gold League concentrates the mid-level players, with a fairly balanced investment and earnings ratio.

<figure><img src="/files/IxK0ysbvqxZSduhwHwdW" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Diamond <a href="#diamond" id="diamond"></a>

In the Diamond League you can find the best players trying to rise to glory.

<figure><img src="/files/1OAZMFstAwBV7IOeoMyj" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Champion <a href="#champion" id="champion"></a>

In the Champions League you can get the best players, and the top 50 receive rewards in DEC tokens. Here all the rulesets are available and the Glint and SPS profits are the best.

<figure><img src="/files/meAWs2mAEkTw706OAPZY" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Seasons

Splinterlands seasons are the heartbeat of the game. There is always one in session, and no sooner than one season ends, each and every player is grappling for a position in the next.

During these seasons, players compete in ranked battles to earn ranking points, which allow them to rank up and also determine their SPS and Glint earnings per battle. Ranked battle Glint earned in Modern and Wild battle formats contribute to a player’s End Season Glint Rewards.

## Season Length

Splinterlands seasons have various lengths. Some have been as short as 12 days, while other longer ones are 16 days or more. The end time of each season rotates so that players in different parts of the world can all have their turns to experience the end-of-season grind as the countdown ticks down to zero.

On each player's BATTLE page, there is always a universal countdown that shows the time remaining until the end of the current season, and the new season starts immediately when the current one ends.

<figure><img src="/files/1ex8lITLZtR9qa4bUmWx" alt=""><figcaption><p>Find the clock on the battle page, top left.</p></figcaption></figure>

## Advancing in Tiers

When a player has passed the ranking points required to advance to the next League or Tier in either **Modern or Wild** battle format, they receive a pop-up notification. Moving up to a higher tier means you'll get better rewards for each battle won.

<figure><img src="/files/cY9gzz70SnnvTMftGSJ5" alt=""><figcaption><p>Advancing to Diamond I Tier</p></figcaption></figure>

## End of Season Reset

Placement in the next season is determined by the player's current league at the end of the season.

Note: The end-of-season rating reset will be applied separately to your Modern & Wild leagues.

The Season Rating Reset can be viewed respectively for Modern & Wild battle formats by selecting either Modern or Wild as the battle format in the [Splinterlands](https://splinterlands.com/battle-history) **Battle** page and clicking “League Details”:

## No Battles, No Rewards

See [Season Rewards](https://docs.splinterlands.com/rewards/season-rewards) for details on the season reward system.

# Collection Power

## What is Collection Power?

Every Splinterlands has a “Collection Power” value, or the total combined [Burn Value](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/9187762729492-Burning-Cards) of all Owned cards in a player's collection.

Cards that are delegated or rented to an account do NOT count for Collection Power, except in the case of Tournaments as of the [June 18th, 2024](https://docs.splinterlands.com/platform/release-notes/2024#id-2024-06-18) update. In those cases, the Collection Power is calculated when the user checks the Tournament interface, showing the most recent value including those rented/delegated cards.

## What is Collection Power Used For?

Collection Power can be used as a tournament entry requirement. This measure ensures that only individuals at or above the specified Collection Power may participate.

* **Gladiator cards and cards staked on land no longer count toward Collection Power for tournament entry requirements.**

Collection Power used to be a factor in determining the maximum league a player could access in both Modern and Wild. This functionality was removed during the [Ranked Battle Overhaul](https://peakd.com/splinterlands/@splinterlands/splinterlands-ranked-battle-overhaul) on Feb. 29th, 2024.

2.5 Million Owned Collection Power gives access to the #cardcollector room on the Official Splinterlands [Discord](https://discord.gg/splinterlands).

## Where Can I View My Collection Power?

You can view your account’s Collection Power under the [*Cards*](https://next.splinterlands.com/user/collection/) tab, on your *Items* page, as indicated in the image:

<figure><img src="/files/FEnn1M3UJU8dd81wQLI4" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## How is the burn value determined?

Each card has a power value, this is used to determine the burn value of the card. Most cards can be burned for [Dark Energy Crystal (DEC)](https://docs.splinterlands.com/dark-energy-crystals/burning-cards), although Gladiator Cards are burned for Merits and Soulbound Reward Cards are burned for Glint.

Several variables influence burn value:

* [Rarity](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/card-rarities): The rarer the card, the higher its DEC burn value.
* [BCX](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/combining-cards): The more copies of a card combined into an individual card, the higher the DEC burn value.
* [Foil](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/gold-foil-cards): Gold Foil cards have a higher DEC burn value than Regular Foil.
* [Set](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/sets-editions): Older and rarer editions of cards have higher DEC burn values.

<figure><img src="/files/TCbjqzdldjJpejalDdJd" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You can locate the burn value of specific cards by clicking on a specific card in your collection, navigating to the *Card Details* screen, and reviewing the *Power* column. To convert cards to DEC, Glint, or Merits, click the checkbox of the desired card. Next, click the button indicated by the red arrow below.

# Tournaments

Splinterlands tournaments are scheduled events in which players battle for a prize pool. They come in several different forms and can be customized in many different ways.

While engaging in tournaments it is important to know that some factors are determined by the Tournament Mode selection **(Modern or Wild):**

* A player's Collection Power entry requirements take Modern or Wild into account (i.e. for Modern tournaments, only Modern cards will contribute to the Collection Power entry requirement).
* Gladiator cards and cards staked on land no longer count toward Collection Power for tournament entry requirements.
* Discounted entry fees take into account whether a tournament is Modern or Wild (i.e. for Modern tournaments the discounted fee is based on a player’s Modern league, and for Wild tournaments, the discounted fee is based on a player’s Wild league).

<figure><img src="/files/4thNisKK5Ifon2XDVoLn" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Different Tournament Modes <a href="#different-tournament-modes" id="different-tournament-modes"></a>

### Modern & Wild Tournaments: <a href="#modern-and-wild-tournaments" id="modern-and-wild-tournaments"></a>

As with Ranked play, Wild tournaments allow you to use all cards (subject to edition restrictions placed on a given tournament of course), and Modern tournaments only allow the use of Modern cards (an additional constraint in addition to any specific edition restrictions).

On the Tournaments List screen you will be able to filter by the tournament mode:

<figure><img src="/files/6fEf7yLPlaFVchHoKNyT" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Splinterlands Open Tournaments <a href="#splinterlands-open-tournaments" id="splinterlands-open-tournaments"></a>

Splinterlands Open tournaments rely on skill rather than playable cards in a user's collection. At the beginning of each Splinterlands open tournament, all participants will be given a complete set of cards to use based on the tournament’s series, league, and foil giving each participant an equal playing field. This means that all participants will have access to the same card selection. These Decks will be built off of the selection of playable sets and their levels as determined by the Tournament League. This can include tournaments focused around high-level/expensive decks, specific tournament levels (bronze, silver, gold, etc.), gold foil, etc regardless of rank, any battle mage may compete.

**Open Tournaments and all tournaments created by sps.tournaments are sponsored by the** [**DAO**](https://sps.splinterlands.com/rewards/tournament-prizes)**.**

<figure><img src="/files/tj2bqvH1U7Yvhtvf93L3" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Different Types of Tournaments <a href="#different-types-of-tournaments" id="different-types-of-tournaments"></a>

Tournament modes can be applied to any of the following tournament types:

### Anytime Tournaments <a href="#anytime-tournaments" id="anytime-tournaments"></a>

These tournaments are the most popular style of Splinterlands tournament. They allow players to select and submit their teams whenever it is convenient for them. Depending on how many players are involved in the tournament, there are a set number of rounds. During each round of the tournament, each player submits the required number of battles. Then when the round is over and all battles have been submitted, tournament players are ranked based on the results and a certain portion of players go on to the next round.

To participate in an anytime tournament, you must be registered for the tournament by its scheduled starting time. Battles not submitted are automatically counted as losses.

### Single Elimination <a href="#single-elimination" id="single-elimination"></a>

*Live* tournaments are original-style Splinterlands tournaments based on elimination and bracketing. These can be hosted through the official Splinterlands tournament interface or externally using the Challenge option and organized manually.&#x20;

For Single Elimination tournaments, players must not only be registered but *checked in* before the start of the event to be eligible to participate. A player must also have at least 1 summoner and 6 monsters from the eligible cards to be able to enter a particular tournament. (This applies to both Modern & Wild mode tournaments.) In some cases, there are additional requirements, such as completion of a prerequisite or presence in a designated Discord server.

### Sit-and-Go Tournaments <a href="#sit-and-go-tournaments" id="sit-and-go-tournaments"></a>

In Sit-and-Go Splinterlands tournaments, the tournament begins immediately once the target number of participating players has been reached, rather than at a pre-determined fixed time. These tournaments are typically for a small number of players and do not last long.

&#x20;

## Creating a Tournament <a href="#creating-a-tournament" id="creating-a-tournament"></a>

The create-your-own tournament interface makes it simple to promote your project, product, or brand to Splinterlands players. You can offer Booster Packs or Dark Energy Crystals but also have the option to include *custom* prizes of your choice.

&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/PNXiPesAWruCD3jCjb05" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Tournament creators will be required to select the Game Mode option to specify if a tournament should be Modern or Wild (it **must** be one or the other) as well as all other tournament options including the edition restrictions, gold foil, or not, etc.

Note: Only ‘Whitelisted’ Splinterlands staff are able to create Splinterlands Open Tournaments. (This option is not available to the public.)\ <br>

You can create a Splinterlands tournament by going through the step-by-step process on [this page.](https://splinterlands.com/?p=tournament_create)

# Cards

As a digital collectible trading card game (TCG), the key component of Splinterlands is its cards. These are Splinterlands card basics.

# Card Rarities

Card Rarities determine how likely a certain card is to be found in a Booster Pack or Loot Chest, as well as its number of levels and cards necessary to reach those levels.

Card Rarities determine how likely a certain card is to be found in a Booster Pack or Loot Chest. The rarity, along with the set, determines how many copies need to be combined to level up a card to reach its Maximum Potential.

### Legendary

![](/files/kUg4nhvBoFTaLU7c5tJW)

Rimmed with gold before being revealed, Legendary cards are the rarest in Splinterlands, with the lowest total supply per card.

In Booster Packs, the normal chance of revealing a Legendary is 0.8%, but this chance can be doubled to 1.6% by using a **Legendary Potion** charge.

Your chances of finding a Legendary Reward Card in a Card Containing **Loot Chest:**\
**Bronze** Loot Chest: 0.2% chance.\
**Silver** Loot Chest: 0.8% chance.\
**Gold** Loot Chest: 1.2% chance.\
**Diamond** Loot Chest: 1.6% chance,\
**Champion** Loot Chest: 3.2% chance.&#x20;

### Epic <a href="#epic" id="epic"></a>

![](/files/RCUWBx9CVuOIDg96X6LF)

Rimmed with purple before being revealed, Epic cards are the second most rare type of card in Splinterlands.

In Booster Packs, the chance of revealing an Epic card is 4.8%. The 4.8% chance is the same whenever a card is found inside a Loot Chest.

### Rare <a href="#rare" id="rare"></a>

![](/files/XIbmiCQ8VX5KJpeIos3u)

Rare cards are rimmed with blue before being revealed. At least one card that is *Rare or better* is guaranteed in every Booster Pack.

The chance is revealing a Rare card when opening Booster Packs and card-containing Loot Chests is 24.8%.

### Common <a href="#common" id="common"></a>

![](/files/NsMSC0V3D3Q26HZZ1ggS)

Common cards are found 69.6% of the time when a card is revealed in a **Booster Pack** (or 68.8% with Legendary potions).

Your chances of finding a Common Reward Card in a Card Containing **Loot Chest**:\
**Bronze** Loot Chest: 70.2% chance.\
**Silver** Loot Chest: 69.6% chance.\
**Gold** Loot Chest: 69.2% chance.\
**Diamond** Loot Chest: 68.8% chance,\
**Champion** Loot Chest: 67.2% chance.

# Combining Cards

In Splinterlands, cards are only leveled up by combining like cards. Here is a quick guide on combining and leveling cards.

To increase the level of a card, and thereby gain access to higher stats and more varied abilities to achieve better results on the battlefield, one must combine multiple copies of the same unit/summoner. The term Base Card Experience, or BCX, allows you to see how many individual copies of a card have been combined into one, as well as how many are required for each subsequent level up.

## BCX <a href="#bcx" id="bcx"></a>

**BCX = Base Card Experience -** Every card that is found via packs or rewards begins with 1 BCX, meaning that it has not been combined with any other individual copies yet.

A player can combine 2 versions of the same card to create one card with a higher BCX. Once two cards are combined, one of these original cards and its Card ID will be burned and its BCX will be merged into the Card ID of the card holding the highest BCX before the combination. In the case of both cards having the same BCX before being combined, the Card ID of the first card alphabetically will be retained.

**Example 1:**

*Card A = 1 BCX*

*Card B = 1 BCX*

In this example, if a player chooses to combine Card A and Card B, selecting Card A first and then Card B, Card B will be burned and its BCX will be merged with Card A, as Card A comes first alphabetically. The player will now own Card A with 2 BCX.

**Example 2:**

*Card 1 = 1 BCX*

*Card 2 = 2 BCX*

In this example, if a player chooses to combine Card 1 and Card 2. Card 1 (the lowest BCX before the merge) will be burned and its BCX will be combined with Card 2 (the highest BCX before the merge). The player will now own Card 2 with 3 BCX.

Once a certain card has reached the required BCX, it “levels up”, as explained below.

## Leveling Up <a href="#leveling-up" id="leveling-up"></a>

On the [**Stats**](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/card-stats) page of each card, you can see how many BCX are required to reach each level, as well as what stats and abilities may change, increase, or be added at each of those levels.

The Common Rebellion card below requires 400 individual 1 BCX cards to be combined in order to reach the max level of 10.

<figure><img src="/files/ZF3LQmWocBomGeaXPn0f" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The Legendary Rebellion card below requires 11 combined singles to reach its max level of 4.

<figure><img src="/files/DevZ7NEu3BPKPCFyhTid" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The number of BCX required to level up cards will vary depending on the Set/Edition, as well as rarity. Alpha cards require the lowest BCX to level up as there were far fewer Alpha Cards in the original supply.

**Combining cards is permanent. While you may have combinations that are in between levels (i.e., a Level 2 4 BCX Kei, the above card), there is no in-game benefit until the next actual level is reached and stats and abilities are upgraded/changed.**

Cards that are combined are deducted from the [***circulating supply***](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/card-supply)***.*** If 20 single cards are combined into a 20 BCX card, the circulation of that card will be reduced by 19.

**Because they are significantly rarer,** [**Gold Foil Cards**](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/gold-foil-cards) **require fewer BCX to level up than regular foil, and their initial 1 BCX state will be higher than Level 1 (this varies by rarity). As seen below, this Common Rebellion card is Gold Foil, and begins as a Level 3 card despite being only 1 BCX.**

<figure><img src="/files/EthEyzg99K3588GVD4e9" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**The above Gold Foil Albahoo Forester will only require 38 BCX total to reach its max level of 10, while the regular foil version seen below requires far more, with 400 BCX required.**

<figure><img src="/files/EXR5JNVJ50sEbadDzSc6" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Card Levels and Stats <a href="#card-levels-and-stats" id="card-levels-and-stats"></a>

As the level of a unit increases, its [**stats**](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/card-stats) (Attack, Health, Armor, Speed) may also increase. At certain levels, they also may gain new abilities. Utilizing the **Stats** tab on an individual card (seen below) allows players to see the specific stats and changes to them at various levels. In the example below, at Level 2 you can see that [Solace Ashinach](https://next.splinterlands.com/card-detail/624/regular/12/?tab=for-rent) has an increase in Speed and Health, and a new ability is added.

# Burning Cards

All cards are backed by a certain amount of DEC, GLINT or MERITS. When burned, those DEC, GLINT or MERITS are awarded to the player.

Cards within Splinterlands can be “Tradable” or “Soulbound”, which will affect various things about their use outside of battles, including what token the card can be burned for. Burning means the card will be destroyed, and permanently removed from circulation.

Tradable cards consist of any cards that can be transferred, sold, rented, or burned for DEC. These can be obtained via booster packs (for any of the various sets) or purchased via the card market.

Soulbound cards consist of any cards that are bound to the owner’s account, and cannot be transferred, sold, rented, or burned for DEC (though they can be burned for GLINT or MERITS). These can be obtained as rewards in loot chests and rarity draws via GWEN'S GLINT SHOP, as well as Gladius Cases via the GUILD STORE. Gladiator cards from Gladius cases are burnable for Merits.

As you can see, depending on the type of card, the token they can be burned for will vary. The details are listed below.

### Burning Cards to Get DEC Tokens <a href="#burning-cards-to-get-dec-tokens" id="burning-cards-to-get-dec-tokens"></a>

**The DEC burn value of a card can be found within the details for a specific card, in the Power column on the right-hand side of the screen. Only tradable (non-Soulbound) cards can be burned for DEC. Click on any card on your Items page, then make sure the “Cards” tab is selected, as seen below:**

<figure><img src="/files/luES45tZqhV9zTRIdWac" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Card burn values are based on several factors:

* BCX
* Rarity
* Set
* Foil
* Card Level (Burning Max or over-max level cards earn an additional 5% burn bonus.)

The DEC burn value of a card is also equivalent to its Collection Power value. The DEC burn value is always displayed next to the cards you own on the Collection page. If you do not own a certain card, you can also use the following chart to determine the DEC burn value.

<figure><img src="/files/RgrjfDRLObJpA5h0qCes" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Burning Cards to Get GLINT <a href="#burning-cards-to-get-glint" id="burning-cards-to-get-glint"></a>

**The GLINT burn value of a card can be determined by multiplying the Power value of a card by 5. Soulbound Reward cards can be burned for GLINT. To see a card’s Power, click on any Soulbound Reward card on your Items page, then make sure the “Cards” tab is selected, as seen below:**

<figure><img src="/files/WwWCJ0X2iOss0FVmTOrV" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Card burn values for GLINT are based on the same factors as DEC burning; If you do not own a certain card you can use the following chart below to determine the GLINT burn value:

<figure><img src="/files/FZ0CeXSYRd3D0LnxtdmU" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Burning Cards to get MERITS <a href="#burning-cards-to-get-merits" id="burning-cards-to-get-merits"></a>

**The MERIT burn value of a card can be found within the details for a specific card, in the Power column on the right-hand side of the screen. Only Gladiator cards can be burned for MERITS. Click on any Gladiator card on your Items page, then make sure the “Cards” tab is selected, as seen below:**

<figure><img src="/files/Lt83VhYqDxa0NGaLLYQ9" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Card burn values for MERITS are based on the same factors as DEC and GLINT burning; If you do not own a certain card you can use the chart below to determine the MERIT burn value:

# Card Stats

These are the numbers and abilities that make every Splinterlands card unique.

## Health <a href="#health" id="health"></a>

A unit's health determines how much damage it can take before falling in a battle.

&#x20;Every unit has a certain amount of health points with which it enters each battle, this is indicated by the heart icon on the card.\
A card’s health number can vary based on the card itself as well as the level of the card and can be affected by abilities such as *Strengthen* and *Weaken*.

<figure><img src="/files/lOuqmF5hqYCVRcLgROGk" alt="" width="328"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Speed <a href="#speed" id="speed"></a>

A unit's speed determines the hit/miss ratio when it is used in battle, and it is also a major factor in determining the attack order of the units during combat.

Every unit has a certain speed with which it enters each battle, this is indicated in the blue circle (with a Hermes sandal). The speed of a card varies based on the card itself as well as the level of the card and can be affected by abilities such as *Slow* and *Swiftness*.

<figure><img src="/files/O6Wx400UIdF2FkhXLyUg" alt="" width="328"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Attack <a href="#attack" id="attack"></a>

Attacks come in three different forms: Melee, Ranged, and Magic. A card’s attack can vary based on the card itself as well as the level of the card and can be affected by the abilities such as *Inspire* and *Demoralize* abilities. A unit's attack determines how much damage it can deal when it attacks an enemy monster in battle.

### Melee Attacks <a href="#melee-attacks" id="melee-attacks"></a>

Every melee attack unit has a certain amount of melee attack points with which it enters each battle, this is indicated by a circular blade icon on the card. Melee attacks are normally only for close range (unit in the 1st position). There are several exceptions to this rule, such as the *Sneak, Opportunity,* and *Reach* abilities.

<figure><img src="/files/MHE5R6UajLlSHg06sDas" alt="" width="328"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Ranged Attacks <a href="#ranged-attacks" id="ranged-attacks"></a>

Some units have ranged attack, which is indicated by an arrow/target icon. Range attackers can attack from any position except the first position unless the *Close Range* ability or the *Close Range* ruleset is in effect.

<figure><img src="/files/sEREmXJPNICpNmLXyA5n" alt="" width="328"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Magic Attacks <a href="#magic-attacks" id="magic-attacks"></a>

Other units have magic attack which is indicated by a purple cloud with a lightning icon. Magic can attack from any position on the battlefield. Generally, magic attacks also bypass armor to deal damage directly to health. The *Silence* ability reduces the magic attack of every card on the enemy team, and other abilities can alter the effectiveness of magic attacks (*Void, Magic Reflect, Void Armor, Phase).*

<figure><img src="/files/ULRH9lqrwJkPEzbz9Ilg" alt="" width="328"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Cards With No Attack <a href="#cards-with-no-attack" id="cards-with-no-attack"></a>

There are also cards with no attack but they make up for their lack of attack with other abilities.

<figure><img src="/files/ZFb266kaNVFp2p18hUNF" alt="" width="328"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Multiple Attack Types <a href="#multiple-attack-types" id="multiple-attack-types"></a>

While less common, there are cards with multiple attack types, as seen here. These can be affected by rulesets, abilities, or position in the line-up as with the individual attack types on their own.

<figure><img src="/files/IGhsvyKyugIQkDNyrMrR" alt="" width="328"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Armor <a href="#armor" id="armor"></a>

Armor protects certain units from range and melee attacks by receiving damage to the unit's armor instead of their health for as long as the armor is in place. Normally no damage would be done to Health from Melee or Ranged attacks when it hits Armor, even if the damage exceeds the remaining Armor on the unit. The *Piercing* ability is an exception to this rule, where extra damage beyond the Armor amount is applied to Health.

Armor is indicated by the shield icon that appears above the health statistic on the card. Armor varies based on the card itself as well as the level of the card. Many cards have no armor unless it is gained through another card's ability, such as *Protect.*

<figure><img src="/files/wi4HIfTZBMZg9BL37wpK" alt="" width="328"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Abilities <a href="#abilities" id="abilities"></a>

Abilities on a card represent unique bonuses brought to the battle by that card.

There are dozens of different abilities that belong to certain Splinterlands cards. Some of them are gained as the card levels up, while some are present beginning at level 1. Some abilities represent a unique characteristic of that card (Flying, Dodge, Piercing), while others can affect your entire team (Protect, Swiftness, etc). There are also abilities that reduce certain statistics of your enemy's team, which are commonly referred to as *debuffs* (Demoralize, Slow, etc.).

Abilities can belong to both Units and Summoners.

You'll find a list of all the Splinterlands abilities on the [**HOW TO PLAY**](https://splinterlands.com/how-to-play) page.

<figure><img src="/files/bRxfsqGQeSwbmfd81JZm" alt="" width="328"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Mana Cost <a href="#mana-cost" id="mana-cost"></a>

Before every battle, the players are presented with a *mana cap,* the maximum number of mana points that may be used in the creation of their teams.

Every card (Units and Summoners) has a *mana value,* which can be found in the top left corner of the card as pictured below.

<figure><img src="/files/eOyfwFnJK1Rmfpk7q33F" alt="" width="328"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

During team selection, a mana calculator will be displayed on the ‘Drafting a Team’ screen to indicate the mana usage. Teams can only be successfully submitted for battle if the total mana values of all the cards selected for the upcoming battle are equal to or less than the mana cap indicated.

<figure><img src="/files/jZhuXtrBADOZliS8tGWY" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## &#x20;<a href="#elements" id="elements"></a>

# Elements

Each unit and summoner belongs to one of the 6 elements, with the exception of neutral units.

You can determine which element a card belongs to because the associated element colors are present in the background of the card, and the element icons within the card frames.

### **Elements** <a href="#elements" id="elements"></a>

Units belong to a specific [*Element*](https://splinterlands.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/SP/pages/29360594) (Fire, Water, Earth, Life, Death, or Dragon) or are *Neutral* cards.

Neutral Units can called forth by a Summoner from any Element, while other Units can only be called forth by Summoners of that specific Element. *Dragon Summoners* can choose a designated Element at the beginning of the drafting stage of the battle, then summon Units from that Element as well as the Dragon Element. There’s also only 1 Neutral Summoner available, Lux Vega, and can use any element except Dragon

<figure><img src="/files/ptLPLjeH8oV5ueRwLllQ" alt=""><figcaption><p>Lux Vega, Created to celebrate SplinterFest 2022</p></figcaption></figure>

Each unit and summoner belongs to one of the 6 elements, with the exception of neutral units.

No element has power over another. For example, water does not trump fire, fire does not trump earth, etc. Rather, each element is powerful in its own right, with different advantages and disadvantages given the scenario or circumstances.

The **Fire** element is concentrated in areas of exceptional heat and dryness. However, it can also be created by intense passion. **(Red)**

<figure><img src="/files/qeyrSGVG1A45mrhfEv5l" alt="" width="100"><figcaption><p><strong>Fire</strong></p></figcaption></figure>

The **Water** element is concentrated in streams, rivers, lakes, and seas. It is also found in rainfall. **(Blue)**

<figure><img src="/files/8a34hcJuySR1cFuGZ4q9" alt="" width="100"><figcaption><p><strong>Water</strong></p></figcaption></figure>

The **Earth** element is concentrated in nature and the terrestrial world: forests, plains, hills, and underground caverns. **(Green)**

<figure><img src="/files/rB4Wze8ZPWR7tNXpiTCx" alt="" width="100"><figcaption><p><strong>Earth</strong></p></figcaption></figure>

While the **Life** element is mostly concentrated in the sky, upper planes, and areas of illumination, it is also woven into the fabric of time and space. Do not be fooled by its name, though; it can both heal and destroy. **(White)**

<figure><img src="/files/F3vKgHRpgWdKbBHhRh7n" alt="" width="100"><figcaption><p><strong>Life</strong></p></figcaption></figure>

The **Death** element is concentrated in the lower planes and areas of darkness and shadow. It can also coalesce anywhere that is void of life. **(Black)**

<figure><img src="/files/b53FsSO0jpRu0FOZY3Fz" alt="" width="100"><figcaption><p><strong>Death</strong></p></figcaption></figure>

The sources of the **Dragon** element harness an ancient combination of all the elements, which they call *Glory. **(Purple)***

<figure><img src="/files/V2YWshQZBDnQRp0Ziy1y" alt="" width="100"><figcaption><p><em><strong>Dragon</strong></em></p></figcaption></figure>

The **Neutral** element can also harmonize with all other elements and occupy the gaps in and between them. **(Grey)**

### **Multi-Elements Cards** <a href="#multi-elements-cards" id="multi-elements-cards"></a>

Multi-element Units were introduced with Zyriel in the Chaos Legion set

<figure><img src="/files/hkCNAC4tiAl42lp2UUUV" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

And 10 multi-element Summoners, 5 Common and 5 Legendary, were introduced in the Rebellion set

<figure><img src="/files/88SdVY3jwhvCYbmbx28s" alt=""><figcaption><p>Rebellion Legendary Dual-Element Summoners</p></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/lnWP9Zv9NlnVpzaQt6Fq" alt=""><figcaption><p>Rebellion Dual-Element Units</p></figcaption></figure>

## In the Game

Cards are divided evenly into six different elements, which are designated by their colors. A card can only be summoned to battle by Summoners of the same element. There are also a number of Neutral cards that can be summoned by any Summoner.

One of the restrictions presented before each battle includes a section called ‘Active Elements’. The element icons that are not lit up represent the elements that will not be playable by either player in that battle. This aspect of the game is in place not only to help ensure that each battle is unique but also to encourage players to build balanced collections across multiple elements.

<figure><img src="/files/O3B0jZv5qUCZ6DzskFzJ" alt=""><figcaption><p>Active elements displayed on the ‘Match Begins’ screen</p></figcaption></figure>

### Dragon Summoners

Players using Dragon Summoners can summon cards from any element, but before starting to build their team, they must pick one of the elements from which to select cards. They will then be able to summon cards from their element of choice, as well as all the Dragon cards.

<figure><img src="/files/7fpKRG8pPY4KJGiTarnl" alt=""><figcaption><p>When using a Dragon Summoner, an element of focus that falls within the Active Elements for the upcoming battle must be chosen.</p></figcaption></figure>

# Booster Packs

One of the most important products sold by Splinterlands are booster packs. Booster packs from the currently active set (Rebellion) can be purchased in the [S](https://splinterlands.com/?p=shop\&tab=)[Splinterlands shop](https://splinterlands.com/shop/packs) or from other players on the in-game market, as well as third-party markets.

# Purchasing Booster Packs

Players can purchase Booster Packs (while supplies last) from the current main set, using [Credits](https://docs.splinterlands.com/dec/splinterlands-credits) or [Dark Energy Crystals](https://docs.splinterlands.com/dec/dark-energy-crystals-dec). Each card in a pack has a certain percentage chance of being a Common, Rare, Epic, or Legendary rarity, as well as a small chance of being a Gold Foil version of the card. Chances of flipping Gold Foil and Legendary cards can be doubled by purchasing *Alchemy* and *Legendary* Potions at a rate of 1 charge per card in a pack.

Every Booster Pack is guaranteed to contain at least one card that is Rare or better.

Booster packs can be purchased on the [**Splinterlands Shop Page**](https://splinterlands.com/shop/packs), the [non-card market](https://splinterlands.com/market/other-items), as well as various third-party platforms such as [Tribaldex.](https://tribaldex.com/)

<figure><img src="/files/U1UewHXyqyBJKLu5IHRN" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Opening Booster Packs

## Opening Booster Packs <a href="#opening-booster-packs" id="opening-booster-packs"></a>

Booster Packs can be opened at the [**MANA WELL**](https://splinterlands.com/mana-well), by clicking the **Open** button on the top menu bar.

When Booster Packs are in your collection (displayed on the bottom section of the page), drag them into the mana well to trigger the pack opening animation and reveal your cards. As you can see below, there is a balance displayed for each pack type. This example shows 1605 [Rebellion](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/sets-editions/rebellion) packs, 2426 [Riftwatchers](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/sets-editions/riftwatchers) packs, 374 [Chaos Legion](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/sets-editions/chaos-legion) packs, 172 Nightmare packs but no [Gladius Cases](https://docs.splinterlands.com/guilds/gladiator-cards). Any packs with a balance of 0 cannot be dragged, nor can you use the open multiple option.

<figure><img src="/files/HTCNrp5x2HtH5KyuYyTg" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Opening Multiple Booster Packs <a href="#opening-multiple-booster-packs" id="opening-multiple-booster-packs"></a>

If you want to open more than one booster pack simultaneously, click the open multiple icon located next to the icon of the specific pack on the Mana Well screen. This will open the ‘How Many?’ dialog which will allow you to select the number of card packs that you wish to open. Enter the number of packs then click on the ‘Open’ button. (All pictured below)

The maximum number you can open simultaneously is 200 packs.

<figure><img src="/files/fkrNhyXMu7FQ26j4eeqJ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Revealing cards <a href="#revealing-cards" id="revealing-cards"></a>

Whether you are opening one or multiple packs, your cards will initially be displayed face down. To reveal your cards, you can select the ‘Reveal All’ button displayed above the cards on your screen or click on each card individually.

<figure><img src="/files/rzBBZ0hE4qaeAWuVTH96" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Multiple copies of the same card drawn in a single opening will be grouped and can be identified with the red banner at the top right of the card. This number indicates how many copies of a specific card you have received.

<figure><img src="/files/n8jh6JEKsOF8KRJvrtvU" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Although using [potions](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/booster-packs/booster-pack-potions) when opening a pack is beneficial in increasing your chances of receiving Gold Foil or Legendary cards, you will still be able to open your packs without them.

After opening, the cards will immediately appear in your collection.

If you would like to replay your pack opening or share the excitement by allowing someone else to replay your pack opening you can [follow these instructions](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/13166590509460-How-to-Replay-Pack-Openings).

# Transferring Booster Packs

Booster Packs can be transferred to/from several external wallets, including [**Hive-Engine**](https://hive-engine.com/) and [**WAX**](https://wax.atomichub.io/explorer/collection/wax-mainnet/splintrlands)**.** While the packs cannot be *opened* when transferred, they can be listed and traded on external markets.

Your Hive-Engine wallet is linked automatically because your Splinterlands account is also a **Hive blockchain** wallet, but you will need to [***link your WAX wallet***](https://splinterlands.com/user/external-wallet?type=wax) to your Splinterlands account if you wish to transfer tokenized packs to and from your Wax wallet.

## How to Transfer Packs <a href="#how-to-tokenize-packs" id="how-to-tokenize-packs"></a>

<figure><img src="/files/opTZyqijNGdv3PFNThVh" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/t1uP2jeiBLFneZhbaeX2" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

If you would like to transfer your booster packs, you can do so by clicking the **Transfer** button on the [**Mana Well (Open) page**](https://splinterlands.com/mana-well)**,** or you can go to [**Inventory Other page**](https://splinterlands.com/user/inventory) and select the **Transfer** option from the burger menu displayed in line with the pack selection that you wish to tokenize.

This will open the Transfer Packs page that will allow you to choose to send packs to/from your various linked external wallets, as well as to other players in-game. It will also show you how many packs you already hold in your internal and external wallets.

<figure><img src="/files/j5ex4WjkvZl0nRD2wqSu" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

To send to an external chain, in the **From** dropdown menu, select **In-Game**, then in the **To** dropdown menu, choose the external wallet. Specify the number of packs to move, then click **Transfer** to transfer these to the chosen external wallet.

# Booster Pack Potions

## Booster Pack Potions

<figure><img src="/files/lClY8vsoDYElfJZyz6WE" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Two types of Potions affect the drop rates of cards found in Booster Packs of all Sets: **Alchemy** and **Legendary.** Each charge is effective for a single card, and only 1 charge of each potion can be used per card.

Potion charges can be purchased in the [**POTION SHOP**](https://splinterlands.com/shop/potions) by individual charge, with Guild and bulk discounts always available.

**Alchemy Potion -** Doubles your chance of a card being a Gold Foil (from 2 to 4% chance per card).

**Legendary Potion -** Doubles your chance of a card being a Legendary (from 0.8 to 1.6% per card).

# Sets/Editions

Every Splinterlands card is classified by edition and set.

# Alpha

The Alpha Set is what started it all in 2018.

The Alpha Set is what started it all as the first ever sold, with Splinterlands launch in May 2018. It was also the only set whose summoners and monsters were reused (in the Beta set) because of the initial low supply of Alpha cards.

Today, players earn a 10% Rshare bonus for each Alpha card used in battle. Alpha Booster packs have become exceedingly rare, but Alpha packs and cards can be purchased in the Splinterlands [Card Market](https://splinterlands.com/market/card-sales) or various other third-party markets.

### Cards from the Alpha edition are playable in all Wild Ranked Battles. <a href="#cards-from-the-alpha-edition-are-playable-in-all-wild-ranked-battles" id="cards-from-the-alpha-edition-are-playable-in-all-wild-ranked-battles"></a>

# Alpha Core

<figure><img src="/files/nxQUtgyZpeSFGOFBos7v" alt=""><figcaption><p><em>An unopened Alpha pack</em></p></figcaption></figure>

The “Core” Alpha set consists of 59 cards, and can be filtered for on the [Items ](https://splinterlands.com/user/collection)and [Market ](https://splinterlands.com/market/card-sales)pages with the option seen below:

<figure><img src="/files/bnr4nyO3MbntErxEDIXv" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Only 300,000 Alpha booster packs were created.

# Alpha Promo

The “Promo” cards of the Alpha set are pictured below, and are more limited in number than other later editions, consisting of only 4 Dragon Element cards: 2 Summoners and 2 Units. These all each have a Gold Foil variant. These were all rewards from the very first Splinterlands Kickstarter project, in order to begin funding the game and development in the early stages.

They can be filtered for on the [Items ](https://splinterlands.com/user/collection)and [Market ](https://splinterlands.com/market/card-sales)pages with the option seen below:

<figure><img src="/files/Umiu8GDM9jzfuaBTPK92" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Beta

BetaBeta Booster packs were the first large sale of Splinterlands packs, with nearly 1 million total packs sold. Beta versions of all the same summoners and monsters from the Alpha set were used, plus the addition of Neutral (Element-less) cards, and new Epic and Legendary summoners.

Today, players earn a Rshare bonus of 5% for each Beta card used in battle. The Beta Booster packs have become quite rare, Beta packs and cards can be purchased in the Splinterlands [Card Market](https://splinterlands.com/market/card-sales) or various other third-party markets.

### Cards from the Beta edition are playable in all Wild Ranked Battles.

# Beta Core

<figure><img src="/files/Es2JjMNNW3W6lmJ7sCO6" alt=""><figcaption><p>An unopened Beta Pack</p></figcaption></figure>

Beta was the first set to feature Neutral element units. It also broke new ground with 5 Epic rarity Summoners, one for each Element excluding Dragon, as well as 5 Legendary rarity summoners via airdrops for each of the non-Dragon elements (Dragon was originally the only Element with a legendary summoner, Selenia Sky). After the airdrops, these became available in packs.

<figure><img src="/files/qXWTQjjkEEYRDCgml7JW" alt=""><figcaption><p>SeedGerminator Promo Cards</p></figcaption></figure>

The final two Beta Promo cards were both Legendary Summoners and were only available through the Mystery Potion (no longer available). This would give out a single copy of these rare cards, 1 summoner at a time, each day or every other day, depending on the card. A total of 100 (including both Regular Foil and Gold Foil variants) of each was minted and awarded to players who purchased these potions.

<figure><img src="/files/Y0kuMPQQqX5937oQyKw2" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Beta Reward

Beta was the first set to feature a “Reward” series of cards, which were available to earn by completing Daily Quests. At the time, cards were the only Rewards given out, prior to the Reward Chests being added to the game. Beta Reward cards consisted of 48 individual units and 1 summoner (as with all cards, each of these has a Gold Foil variant).

They can be filtered for on the [Items ](https://splinterlands.com/user/collection)and [Market ](https://splinterlands.com/market/card-sales)pages with the option seen below:

# Untamed

Untamed packs began to be sold in-game following the Beta Set being sold out. In this set, an additional reward system of *airdrops* based on packs sold was implemented. These airdrops took place every 100,000 packs sold and featured the release of a brand new card; players had a greater chance of receiving the new card based on how many Untamed packs they had purchased from [Splinterlands](http://splinterlands.com).

The Untamed card edition boasted many new abilities that were not previously found on the cards of the Alpha or Beta sets. The Untamed Booster packs and cards can be purchased in the Splinterlands [Card Market](https://splinterlands.com/market/card-sales) or various other third-party markets.

### Cards from the Untamed set are playable in all Wild Ranked Battles.

The Mighty Dricken was like Archmage Arius and Prince Julian of the Beta Promo set, and was only available through the Mystery potion. The other two cards each came from their promotional events. The Halfling Alchemist was an event celebrating the Bitcoin Halving, and the Chain Golem came from a Kickstarter event.

# Chaos Legion

The Chaos Legion Set was released on October 18, 2021.

![Chaos Legion Card Edition](/files/zgI2MoFdmiQUaMJa5MVl)

The Chaos Legion card set was the third major card expansion to be introduced into the Splinterlands game. With over 100 new cards bursting with eye-popping artwork and strategy-changing abilities, it represented our largest and most ambitious release to date. Packs are now sold-out in game, but are available in the Splinterlands market and other 3rd party markets.

### &#x20;Cards from the Chaos Legion edition are currently playable in both Modern & Wild Ranked Battles. <a href="#hardbreak-cards-from-the-chaos-legion-edition-are-currently-playable-in-both-modern-and-wild-ranked" id="hardbreak-cards-from-the-chaos-legion-edition-are-currently-playable-in-both-modern-and-wild-ranked"></a>

# Chaos Legion Reward

Initially, Chaos Legion Reward cards functioned like all previous cards, being tradable, sellable, and burnable for DEC. However, the most recent Chaos Legion Reward cards are “Soulbound”, which means they are permanently linked to the user’s account that earned them. They can be combined to level-up as normal, and can be burned for Glint now, but cannot be transferred to anyone else, nor sold or rented on the markets.

They can be filtered for on the [Items ](https://next.splinterlands.com/user/collection)and [Market ](https://next.splinterlands.com/market/card-sales)pages with the option seen below:

# Runicore

<figure><img src="/files/RlHWqLDGg6BKzWBp0zLE" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The Runicore (or Runi for short) was a limited-edition promo card in the Splinterlands game. The Runi is unlike every other card that has ever been part of Splinterlands (or any similar trading card game that we are aware of) because the artwork for each individual Runi card NFT is 100% unique.

The Runi was Splinterlands' first "Generative NFT" project, similar to Crypto Punks, Bored Apes, and many others, which means that players could mint Runi that each had a completely unique, random combination of six different visual attributes. The Runi cards all had the same stats and abilities within the Splinterlands game, but everywhere a Runi is shown - including on the collection screen, on the battlefield, in the battle history, etc. it shows the unique artwork for that specific Runi NFT.

These unique generative NFTs can be set as the owners' profile pictures. We continue to enjoy seeing Splinterlands players showing off their unique Runi as their profile pictures in-game and on various social media apps such as Discord, Twitter, Hive, and others.

### The Card <a href="#the-card" id="the-card"></a>

<figure><img src="/files/VQLQadTn0scKRkwYGQcI" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The Runi card in the Splinterlands game is a Neutral Legendary 6-mana unit. It has a strong Melee attack and targets the enemy with the least health given the Opportunity ability. While it has a very slow Speed, it makes up for it with the True Strike ability, which means its Melee attack cannot miss. In addition, the magic of the Runicore gives it some Armor and protects it from indirect damage through the Reflection Shield ability.

Last but not least, the Runi brings the Rebirth ability into Splinterlands. Rebirth is a self-resurrect ability, so when the Runi dies, it will return to life with 1 Health. However, this ability can only trigger once per battle and doesn't reset if another card resurrects the Runi.

### Mint Process

The Runi NFTs were minted through a smart contract published to the Ethereum blockchain and cost roughly $500 in ETH each. Players who want to mint a Runi will need enough ETH in a self-custodial wallet to purchase the Runi and pay the applicable gas fees for the minting transaction. Players can mint as many Runi as they want until the cap is reached, the cap was 6,500.

The minting process was only available for 30 days between Oct 25, 2022 and Nov 25, 2022.

**Only 3,521 Runi NFTs were minted in total.**

No more Runi will ever be created, and the only way to get one will be to purchase it from other players on the [OpenSea marketplace](https://opensea.io/collection/runi).

There was a 2% chance that each Runi would be "Gold Foil" (62 Gold Foil Runi were minted in total), Gold foil Runi NFTs will be gold foil cards in the game and will include all of the bonuses and benefits that come with gold foil cards when used in battles.

### Staking Runi NFTs for Use In-Game

Aside from looking really cool, one of the biggest differentiators between the Runi and all of the other generative NFT PFP projects in the space is the ability to use them to battle other players in the Splinterlands game.

Players who own a Runi NFT in their Ethereum wallet can "stake" their NFT by publishing a transaction from the Ethereum wallet that holds the NFT to the Runi NFT smart contract on the Ethereum blockchain. This transaction locks the NFT on Ethereum, making it unable to be transferred or sold until it is unstaked. Players can also specify the Hive wallet address they would like the card to be delegated in the game. This means that if a player owns multiple Runi NFTs in a single Ethereum wallet, they can stake each of them within that one wallet but specify different Hive accounts to which each of those Runi cards should be delegated.

The Runi NFTs are ultimately held and controlled by players' Ethereum wallets while still being able to be used in battles through their Hive accounts in-game. All Runi cards are held in a single Hive wallet address owned and operated by the Splinterlands team and delegated to the Hive account specified in the staking process.

The NFT can be unstaked at any time by publishing a transaction from the Ethereum wallet that holds the NFT on the Ethereum blockchain. When a Runi NFT is unstaked on the Ethereum blockchain, the corresponding Runi NFT card in the game will be automatically undelegated from the player's Hive account, meaning they will no longer be able to use the card in battles, and it can now be transferred or sold to another player on Ethereum.

Runi cards can be managed easily through the [Splinterlands user interface](https://splinterlands.com/collection/manage-runi), allowing users to stake or unstake their Runi from their linked Ethereum wallet. However, unlike all other cards and in-game assets, Runi NFTs can not be transferred, bought, sold, or rented on the Hive blockchain.

**All Runi in the game are max-level** **cards** and can not be combined since the NFTs are held in Ethereum blockchain wallets.

### Licensing

Unlike the majority of NFTs (including the current Splinterlands NFTs), Runi owners hold a full commercial use license to all Runi NFTs for the artwork and graphics of the specific Runi they own. This means that Runi NFT owners can sell the rights to their unique Runi images and derivatives for commercial gain. Only the current owner of the Runi will have access to its full commercial use license, so if a Runi is sold on Opensea, its full commercial use license will belong to the new owner.

Please remember that these rights apply only to the Runi character itself and NOT to the card frame used around the artwork in the Splinterlands game, the Runi/Runicore name, or anything related to the NFT project or the Splinterlands game.

# Riftwatchers

<figure><img src="/files/KOVRkapjIS9Fs1741FSp" alt=""><figcaption><p><em>An unopened Riftwatchers pack</em></p></figcaption></figure>

Riftwatchers was a mini-set of 43 brand new cards (13 common, 12 rare, 6 epic (Summoners), and 12 legendary (including 5 airdrops, in addition to the limited edition promo card).

They can be filtered for on the [Items ](https://splinterlands.com/user/collection)and [Market ](https://splinterlands.com/market/card-sales)pages with the option seen below:

<figure><img src="/files/DJqDkOmbjRwbuokeJFSO" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Similar to previous editions, Riftwatchers contained 5 cards that were added to the set each time 500k Riftwatchers packs were sold. These cards were also airdropped to players who had already purchased Riftwatchers packs, with each pack having a chance of receiving an airdropped card. These cards were Legendary rarity, and there was one for each of the five basic elements in the game.

100% of the SPS tokens spent on purchasing Riftwatchers mini sets went directly to the SPS DAO for the benefit of all token holders.

The Riftwatchers card edition introduced the new Fury ability to the Splinterlands battlefield.

<figure><img src="/files/wkjg3tQCL8pINeTLiJQ4" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3,000,000 Riftwatchers Booster Packs were created.

# Rebellion

Rebellion is the 5th core set and was the first set of cards that the SPS DAO contracted Splinterlands to make on their behalf with a 50/50% profit-sharing split for the core set and the DAO receiving 100% of the profits for the promo cards sold. The presale began on October 19th, 2023, and the general sale started on December 5th, 2023. Rebellion packs were on sale in the shop until December 19, 2024.

# Rebellion Reward

There are 43 Rebellion Reward cards and they can be filtered for on the [Items ](https://splinterlands.com/user/collection)and [Market ](https://splinterlands.com/market/card-sales)pages with the option seen below:

<figure><img src="/files/ol9dnzgWJjQJnFFwNHQb" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Rebellion Reward cards are “Soulbound”, which means they are linked to the user’s account that earned them. They can be combined to level up as normal and can be burned for Glint, but cannot be transferred to anyone else, nor sold or rented on the markets; unless you unbind it by paying the unbind fee, which is x20 the power value in DEC or Credits while the card is available in the GLINT shop.

<figure><img src="/files/gnr2Zcn1cm0Rt8bclDwy" alt=""><figcaption><p>The whole 43 Rebellion Reward cards set</p></figcaption></figure>

### **How can I Unbind my Rebellion reward cards?** <a href="#how-can-i-unbind-my-rebellion-reward-cards" id="how-can-i-unbind-my-rebellion-reward-cards"></a>

Open the card you want to unbind in your [collection](https://splinterlands.com/user/collection) and follow these steps

<figure><img src="/files/aHVXko9dIcUiCPVLeJkf" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/9g273EECp4aSkzg4mLcD" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Gold Foil Cards

All cards are available in a much more scarce Gold Foil variation that offers bonuses when playing and for which fewer cards are required to level up.

<figure><img src="/files/6e0OOKrb4igzchDrnFYU" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**When opening packs, every card has a 2% chance of turning gold just after being revealed. Using an Alchemy Potion when opening packs will double your chances (4%) of a card turning gold.**

### Rshare Bonus <a href="#rshare-bonus" id="rshare-bonus"></a>

When played in Ranked battles, each Gold Foil card earns the player a 10% Reward Share (RShare/Reward points) bonus upon their victory. This bonus can be *stacked*, meaning that it can be used on up to 7 cards per battle (1 Summoner and 6 Monsters). So the maximum bonus that can be earned in Ranked battles by using Gold Foil cards is 70% more Rshares per win. Reward shares (rshares or reward points) are used to calculate both Glint and SPS - the reward currencies for ranked play.

### Special Tournaments <a href="#special-tournaments" id="special-tournaments"></a>

Some tournaments are designed so that *only Gold Foil* cards can be played. These Gold Foil tournaments generally have fewer participating players and greater prize pools than regular foil tournaments. In Guild Brawls, there are also always frays that are only playable by Gold Foil cards.

### Fewer Cards to Level <a href="#fewer-cards-to-level" id="fewer-cards-to-level"></a>

Because they are significantly rarer, Gold Foil cards always require fewer BCX to increase levels, no matter the rarity of the card. The exact number of BCX required varies by set; below are examples of each rarity from the *Rebellion* set. Depending on the rarity, Gold Foil cards also start at higher levels. You can see below in the first example, a Common Gold Foil Rebellion Edition unit begins with 1 BCX but starts at Level 3.

**Common - 38 BCX are required for max level.**

<figure><img src="/files/n5dxSCLrr3HHF2G0DRTw" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Rare - 22 BCX are required for max level.**

<figure><img src="/files/EaaaXPuKK4KksgB2861K" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Epic - 10 BCX are required for max level.**

<figure><img src="/files/ugg2S8fVnonCA2dNbg16" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Legendary - 4 BCX are required for max level.**

<figure><img src="/files/IG5HBgv30Uro5F8lm2XP" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Card Supply

Each Splinterlands card has a finite print run, and cards are never printed again once the print run ends.

The number of cards in **circulation** can be found in a few locations, most obviously on the specific unit/summoner’s **CARDS** page.

<figure><img src="/files/WePfDggvHyV6avzmwo8H" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

This number represents the *total number of the selected cards* in circulation. If new copies of a card are currently being found via Booster Packs or Reward draws, then the *circulation* will increase per new card found. Whenever copies of a card are [combined ](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/combining-cards)or [burned ](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/9187762729492-Burning-Cards)from the supply, the circulation goes down.

When [cards are combined](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/combining-cards) to level them up, ***many cards become 1 card**.* For example, if 20 individual Blackmoor Tricksters are combined, those 20 individuals (1 BCX each) are removed permanently from the supply, and a single Blackmoor Trickster (20 BCX) remains. So the net, in this case, is a loss of 19 Blackmoor Tricksters from circulation.

### Set Cards vs Reward Cards <a href="#set-cards-vs-reward-cards" id="set-cards-vs-reward-cards"></a>

When Booster Packs are opened, each card flipped has a unique chance of dropping a card from the current set based on universal rarity chances. This means that as long as some Booster Packs from each set have not yet been opened, the *exact* *maximum supply* of any specific card from that set cannot be determined, only estimated.

With older Reward cards, on the other hand, there was a finite number of each card that were issued. Therefore, the *print run* of each Reward edition card was able to be tracked based on what percentage has been printed. The *print status* of each Reward card is searchable with [THIS TOOL](https://kiokizz.github.io/Splinterlands/rewardCards.html), created by community member @kiokizz.

Current reward cards (Soulbound reward cards) do not have a set limit, though when another set of new cards is in planning, this may be specified.

Once a card is no longer printed, the circulation of that card will only go down, because the cards in circulation can only be transferred, combined, and burned.

# Card Market

To trade individual cards, players and collectors must understand the Splinterlands card market.

The [**Card Market**](https://splinterlands.com/market/card-sales) can be accessed anytime by clicking the **MARKET** tab on Splinterlands.

<figure><img src="/files/nU13kM41kv16ERw4IHYu" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

On the left-hand side of the page, use the various filter options to help sort through listings and find specific cards you may want to rent or buy. On mobile, these options will be at the bottom of the page, and the filters can be expanded by clicking the up arrow.

<figure><img src="/files/te7sve8MHDso2cyusyaI" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Buying Cards

This guide is for buying cards on the Splinterlands market.

## Buying Cards <a href="#buying-cards" id="buying-cards"></a>

If you intend to buy cards from the internal market, use the filters on the [**Market page**](https://splinterlands.com/market/card-sales) to locate the cards you wish to purchase. When your filtered selection of cards appears, you can see several things at a glance before clicking an individual card.

<figure><img src="/files/kUhjT68aOBCnktxyzmfw" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Click on the card you wish to buy, and you'll be taken to that specific card's '*For Sale'* tab from the *Collection Page.* This can also be accessed through the [**Cards**](https://splinterlands.com/user/collection) page by selecting a card and then selecting the **For Sale** tab.

<figure><img src="/files/wJ85b1YkE0v24xOfaB2S" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You can select the order in which you want to view the cards for sale by selecting one of the options from the drop-down menu provided.

If there is a *clock icon* on the specific card’s row (as pictured below), it indicates that the card is still subject to a <https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/9051138488212-How-Do-Cooldowns-Work> **,** which means that the card has been used in battle in the last 48 hours, and that it will not be playable by you (the new owner) until the cooldown period has ended. You can hover over the icon, which will tell you exactly how much time remains for cooldown.

<figure><img src="/files/VRrF6GXCWbDgIucBvXZN" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Once you have selected the card(s) you wish to purchase, choose from the drop-down to select a payment option (either Credits or DEC), then complete the transaction by clicking **Buy** (seen below). You must sign for the transaction with your active key to proceed. If your purchase was successful, the page will refresh automatically and you will be able to see the cards you have purchased in your collection; the market page will be updated to reflect the purchase as well.

<figure><img src="/files/cJQHsjbRBQY6Q1DHcjoJ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Cards can also be bought on third-party markets such as [PeakMonsters](https://peakmonsters.com/) and [Monster Market](https://monstermarket.io/).

# Selling Cards

## Listing Cards <a href="#listing-cards" id="listing-cards"></a>

**Please note that&#x20;*****listing a*****&#x20;card is not the same as selling a card instantly. While you can list a card for cheaper than the currently listed prices, there is no guarantee that it will sell and there is no way to determine how long the listing will take to be sold.**

<figure><img src="/files/1wZqYadYG02LpUY5hptc" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

1. Select the card you wish to list for sale in your collection by clicking the **Items** button on the top bar; then click the specific unit/summoner in your collection.

# Rentals & Delegations

Splinterlands cards can be delegated to other users for any amount of time.

# The Card Rental System

Splinterlands on-site card rentals, launched in mid 2021, allows players to rent or lend cards directly through the Splinterlands.com collection interface on a daily basis.

Renting cards is an excellent way to build your deck, explore various strategies, and increase your earnings before purchasing cards. When you rent cards from other players, you can earn rewards for yourself by using them in battle, as well as help enrich the Splinterlands ecosystem. When you rent out your cards to others, you grant players access to cards they may not otherwise be able to use, and allow them to fully enjoy the Splinterlands experience.

## How It Works

Players may rent cards *from* other players, or rent out their extra cards *to* other players.

* Players may rent cards from others AND rent out their own cards on either a [Daily or Seasonal](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/13498948014100-Daily-Rentals-vs-Season-Rentals) basis.
* While rentals may be paid for in DEC or Credits by the renter, all rental fees are paid to the card owner in DEC.
* A 1 DEC or 1 Credit listing fee is burned when cards are listed for rent or sale, as well as for price changes.
* After 30 days of inactivity, rental listings will automatically expire, requiring them to be re-listed.

## The Rental Market

Rentals are visible on the [**Card Rentals**](https://splinterlands.com/market/card-rentals) page of the Splinterlands market. Click *Market* on the top menu bar in game, then the [*Card Rentals*](https://splinterlands.com/market/card-rentals) tab.

<figure><img src="/files/RChxxPUBQ1Kk2Fi5y1Vh" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Additionally, there is a *For Rent* tab on the Card Details page of every individual card. This tab shows available cards currently for rent, with all the necessary details (DEC/Day, LVL, BCX, DEC/BCX, Power, and Card ID).

<figure><img src="/files/SbWP9bYkKZPKxR0JFJRd" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/8ueCKM0OHxYRnU5H4AlL" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Card Cooldown

## Cooldown Period <a href="#cooldown-period" id="cooldown-period"></a>

**When recently played cards have been transferred to a new owner or delegated to a new player, they cannot be used in battles for a period of 48 hours since they were last played.**

This is an important anti-abuse measure that prevents owners of multiple accounts from farming too many rewards with the same cards.

Cards in this Cooldown Period are indicated by the **Timer** icon being lit up on the Collection page. When hovered over, the small pop-up will say exactly how much time remains on the timer.

<figure><img src="/files/A6YqLdfIy2Gnf4ULmyyj" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Note: Cards that are in a cooldown period can not be listed for rent.**

# Rewards

This is a brief description of the rewards that can be earned in and around Splinterlands.

# Ranked Battle Rewards

![](/files/azGXDEL4Ub92nWWYU9SR)

## Ranked Rewards: <a href="#ranked-rewards" id="ranked-rewards"></a>

The ranked reward system has been put into place to allow each player across all leagues the opportunity to earn increased rewards for daily participation in a sustainable way for battles played with real cards (whether owned or rented).

For each **Modern or Wild** Ranked Battle won the player will be rewarded with Glint, Rating Points, and Staked Splintershards (SPS). Glint and SPS are calculated from [RShares](https://docs.splinterlands.com/rewards/reward-shares-r-shares) (Reward Shares). Glint may be spent in the [Rewards Shop](https://splinterlands.com/shop/rewards) while Staked SPS must be unstaked before burning for DEC, or traded for other cryptocurrencies.

* Players receive +20 Rating Points for wins, and -20 Rating Points for losses.
* Win Streaks grants players +40 Rating Points rather than the +20.
  * Champion League is exempt from +40 for Win Steaks.

### Earning Splintershards (SPS) and Glint

* Win Streaks grants players +40 Rating Points rather than the +20.
  * Champion League is exempt from +40 for Win Steaks.

### Earning Splintershards (SPS) and Glint

There are 2 SPS reward pools, of equal size. One pool for Modern battles, and one pool for Wild battles, which operate independently. For each Modern or Wild ranked battle won, players earn various amounts of SPS and Glint based on several variables.

* [**SPS Reward Multiplier**](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/17101979325972-Reward-Multipliers-from-SPS-Staking) - The more SPS players have staked, the higher the rewards multiplier. Staked SPS can be rented or accumulated via Ranked Play. ****
* [**League**](https://docs.splinterlands.com/gameplay/leagues) - The higher the League of play, the more SPS can be earned per win. (This applies to the Bronze III - Champion I Leagues)
* [**Win Streak**](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/6452324128532-How-Do-Win-Streaks-Work) - Players earn more Reward Shares per win when that win is part of a win streak (2 or more in a row).
* **Set and Foil Bonuses** - Players earn 10% more Reward Shares for every Alpha or Promo card, 5% more for every Beta card, and 10% more for every Gold Foil card played in a ranked battle. Please Note: Alpha/Beta bonuses are only available in [Wild Format](https://docs.splinterlands.com/gameplay/modern-and-wild-ranked-battles).
* **Guild Bonuses** - There is a set SPS bonus for members of a Guild that depends on the level of their Guild Lodge.
* **Format** - Players in Modern Format earn 50% more Glint than players in Wild Format.

Glint and SPS earned for a specific battle can be viewed on the *Battle Results* screen. Hover over the

icon next to *Glint earned* to reveal the details as indicated by the red arrow below:

<figure><img src="/files/HwF4OLJcGhO3RLBOH2E6" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Starter Card Penalty:**

* Starter Cards are only playable in Modern.
* Every player begins the game with a set of Starter Cards which allow players to battle before renting or purchasing cards. Each starter card used in a ranked battle win will REDUCE the RShares earned for SPS rewards, with 100% Starter Cards used amounting to 0 RShares. You can still win Glint if you use Starter Cards
* Only common and rare from the [Chaos Legion](https://docs.splinterlands.com/cards/sets-editions/chaos-legion) sets are included.&#x20;
* There are distinct differences when viewing starter cards in your collection. The starter card (on the left below) has a blue flag with an S in the top right corner and is more transparent.&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/BDmYkIeV9texn1fHBWZY" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

&#x20;

# Reward Shares (R-Shares)

For each **Modern or Wild** Ranked Battle won the player will be rewarded with Glint and Splintershards (SPS). Both are calculated from [RShares](https://docs.splinterlands.com/rewards/reward-shares-r-shares) (Reward Shares).

### **What is the Formula for Rshares?**

Reward Shares are used to calculate Glint and SPS rewards using the following formula.&#x20;

&#x20; **Reward Shares= \[Rating X (1-%Starter Cards)]^3X Bonuses**

&#x20; **-----------------------------------------------------------------------**

&#x20; **10^7**

Where “rating” is a player’s rating and bonuses are applied by card type, win streak, guild lodge level, and staked SPS multiplier. Since the rating is cubed, higher ratings earn significantly more RShares than lower ratings, so the best way to increase your RShares earned quickly is by increasing your rating.

*Please note that the rating is capped at 5000 for RShares calculations even if your actual rating in the game is above that.*

### **RShare Starter Card Penalty:**

#### Starter Cards

The RShares awarded per battle will be reduced for each starter card used by adjusting the RShare formula above.

Where ‘%\_starter cards’ is the percentage of the winning player’s cards in the battle that are starter cards. (This includes Summoners as well as Units).

As seen in the example table below, a team with 6 cards, 5 monsters, and a summoner, three of those being starter cards will yield 50% of the normal reward share value.

Glint is an in-game nontransferable currency that players earn by participating in [Modern or Wild Ranked Battles](https://docs.splinterlands.com/gameplay/modern-and-wild-ranked-battles) or by [Burning Soulbound Reward Cards](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/9187762729492-Burning-Cards). Glint may be used to purchase items in the Reward Shop. **Glint is earned throughout each season and then distributed at the end of each season as an additional reward.**&#x20;

### **What Is In the Reward Shop?**

Currently, all items in the Reward Shop are sold in different batches based on their rarity. Once the batch sells out, it’s restocked at a 50% higher price. At the start of every Ranked Season, the shop resets, and items are restocked at their initial prices.&#x20;

#### Soulbound Rarity Draws

<figure><img src="/files/dtHESqQf6w0DX69T8eY5" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Players may select a specific card rarity for purchase. The cost is 150 glint per Common Card, 750 per Rare Card, 7,500 per Epic card, and 35,000 per Legendary card. The price will increase every 400 Common cards, 100 Rare cards, 25 Epic cards, and 10 Legendary cards. At the end of each Season, prices will reset.&#x20;

* **These draws will always contain a single soulbound card.**
* Legendary potions will not be used with these openings.
* There is a base 2% gold foil chance for each draw. Double this chance by using [Alchemy Potions](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/8169804471316-Types-of-Potions-and-How-to-Use-Them).&#x20;

#### Gold Foil Rarity Draws

<figure><img src="/files/rxyTCfXiYgtiips47uaO" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Players may select a specific card rarity for purchase. The cost is 3,500 glint per Common GF Card, 15,500 per Rare GF Card, 125,000 per Epic GF card, and 600,000 per Legendary GF card.&#x20;

The price will increase for every 40 Common GF cards, 20 Rare GF cards, 10 Epic GF cards, and 4 Legendary GF cards. At the end of each Season, prices will reset.&#x20;

* **These draws will always contain a single soulbound card.**
* Legendary and Alchemy potions will not be used with these openings.

#### Loot Chests

<figure><img src="/files/xySaXlWlEobmn21GMYNJ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

With 3 different levels, players may purchase up to 300 Minor, 150 Major, or 30 Ultimate chests before the pricing increases by 50%.

# End of Season Rewards

### **What is a Season?**

A Season is the length of time in which a player can play Ranked battles to increase their rating and advance through the leagues. At the end of each season, [ratings are reset](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/13197720774292-EOS-Ratings-Reset) and players begin to battle anew. **At the end of each season, players receive additional Glint Rewards equal to the amount of Glint earned between Modern and Wild formats throughout the season.**&#x20;

* *Players must win at least one battle per season to earn Glint and the EOS Glint Reward.*

### **How Long is a Season?**

The length of a season varies between 12 and 18 days.  You can view the length of the current season by navigating to your [Splinterlands Battle page](https://splinterlands.com/battle-history), and then viewing the countdown timer in the upper left section of the screen.&#x20;

# Loot Chests

There are 3 different loot chests available in [Gwen’s Glint Shop](https://splinterlands.com/shop/rewards)

Each chest will have at least one item in it: Some Energy, Potions, Merits, Reward Cards, and a Jackpot.

<figure><img src="/files/st6bRLnZAw1HrwMisRN9" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Higher-level chests will have either more Merits, Potions, or better chances of higher-valued rewards. The details of the rewards for each type of chest are shown in the table below:

<figure><img src="/files/dN6OM5GcoUBmxlnScLvt" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The percentages show the chances of a single chest of that type containing that type of reward.\ <br>

**Gold/Rarity Boost:**

Each type of chest will have a different chance of receiving a legendary or gold foil reward card. For example, Minor chests will have a 0.1% of a legendary card and a 0.25% chance of any card being a gold foil while Ultimate chests will have a 3.2% chance of a legendary card and a 4% chance of any card being a gold foil. All gold and rarity percentages can be seen in the table above.

&#x20;

**Rewards Cards:**

There are currently 43 Rebellion reward cards that can be found in Loot Chests.

# Leaderboard Rewards

![](/files/2obZWULPSa7gMtMaBj4P)

Players may compete for spots on the Modern and Wild Champion Leaderboards. Players may choose to compete for spots in one format or both. The top 50 spots pay out between 20,000 and 200,000 DEC at the end of each season. This means that a player can get high up the leaderboards for each and get two season prizes as a result, one for **Modern** and one for **Wild**.

<figure><img src="/files/3tk4uC1fWyb10eAfORCG" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### **Tie Breaks**

In case of a Rating tie, the following rules will be applied as tie-breakers, in order of precedence:

1. The player with the highest win ratio **(WINS/BATTLES)** this season wins the tie.
2. The player with the highest **MAX STREAK** this season wins the tie.
3. If still tied, the player with the most **WINS** this season wins the tie.

# League Tier Advancement Chests

# Guilds

Splinterlands Guilds fight together, grow together, and use their combined resources to earn additional value, including DEC bonuses and discounts on various Splinterlands purchases.

Looking for a guild that suits you? Visit the Guild-Recruitment page in the [Splinterlands Discord Server](https://discord.gg/splinterlands).\ <br>

# Buildings

Guild buildings are built and maintained cooperatively by Guilds. They offer various benefits and discounts as levels increase.

# Guild Hall

This is your seat of power within the Splinterlands. The Guild Hall determines the main limitations of your Guild.

The level of your Guild's Hall determines the Max level of every other building in your Guild. Higher levels of Guild Halls require [Guild Power](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/16490875461908-Guild-Power-FAQ) contributions but allow your Guild to contain more members.

<figure><img src="/files/7kdZtgNuveKYui6q4sdj" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Focus Lodge

Your Guild's Focus Lodge determines the amount of bonuses and discounts that can be taken advantage of by members of your Guild.

Two main benefits grow based on the level of your Guild's Focus Lodge

* **RP Bonus - An additional bonus to the amount of Glint gained for each ranked battle win.**
* **Shop Discount - Guild members receive a discount on Potions purchases from the shop.**

<figure><img src="/files/xFRHqqgJCuCmZ4AtpFn7" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**1 Focus requires a minimum of 20 battles per day per player to complete**

If the Focus Lodge is limited by the level of the Guild Hall, then completed Focuses are not counted toward Guild Members' total contributed Focus scrolls.

At the end of each season, the focus lodge will reset, and then the Guild will need to collect scrolls to level it up again.

# Arena

Guild Arenas are constructed to host huge battles (known as Brawls). The larger the Arena, the bigger the Brawls!

![](/files/HDJLl737uu5VXrWTYNFs)

A Guild's Arena level determines the level of Brawl they will be able to play, as well as the amount of participating players and rewards that can be earned.

For performing well in Brawls, guilds will be rewarded with CROWNS. These are a special, non-transferable, non-tradeable guild currency that will allow the guild to upgrade the arena and other buildings as well as purchase items for the guild in the guild shop.

<figure><img src="/files/ECOZDsO3xTeVUFzP6WW7" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The **COST** to level the Arena is a combination of [Guild Power](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/16490875461908-Guild-Power-FAQ) and Crowns. Crowns can only be earned through Guild Brawl combat.

**FRAYS** are the number of players allowed to participate from your Guild in a given Brawl. A Fray always has set League and card limitations, and the Guild must strategically find a player who matches each fray.

The **MAX TIER** determines the level of play among the Frays in a Brawl. Tier 1 contains mostly beginner-level Frays, while Tier 5 contains higher-level Frays, such as Gold and Diamond. Additionally, Guilds are always matched up with Guilds in the same Brawl Tier.

The **Rewards** represent the maximum Crown multiplier that may be applied to the Guild's earnings for victory.

# Barracks

Get your Guild trained and ready for battle

*To attract Gladiators and increase the effectiveness of their Battle Mages, the top Guilds of Praetoria have invested in the construction of sprawling Barracks compounds. These training facilities specialize in sophisticated Tactics for Brawling. Even a slight advantage in combat can often mean the difference between ignoble defeat or glorious victory!*

![](/files/3cQONlDStV7uAf1Yyrr5)

The higher your Barracks level the more tactics your team can use at once in brawl battles.

The Barracks will provide Tactic Buffs to all guild members at each level, increasing their chances of emerging victorious in the guild brawls. It is not required for guilds to upgrade their Barracks at all, however, guilds that do not upgrade their Barracks will be at a disadvantage when battling guilds with higher-level Barracks in the brawls.

<figure><img src="/files/s0pybfhtarOQwstdOTqE" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Level:** Working together to construct a larger Barracks will allow you to more effectively train in powerful brawl tactics! Once the Guild Power requirements have been met, a guild leader may pay construction costs from the Guild’s Crown Balance.

**Cost:** Barracks construction requires a cost in both Guild Power and Crowns. Crowns are awarded to guilds that participate in Brawls.

**Tactic:** Each Barracks level unlocks a new Tactic for use in Brawls. Understanding how each tactic can be used to your Guild's advantage is the key to becoming the ultimate Brawl Champions!

**Note:** Guild Tactics *can only be used in Brawls*. They do not apply to normal Ranked Battles or Tournament play. You don't have to do anything else to use Tactics. They will be automatically unlocked and applied for all guild members when the Barracks levels up.

**Further note:** the following Tactics give you an advantage in Home Arena battles: Advantage, Banish I, Banish II, and Ambush. These 4 will benefit the Home player and hurt the Away player. All other Tactics apply to both Home and Away battles.

# Guild Store

*Excitement is building as the Gladiators train for their first Arena battles throughout the great Guilds of Praetoria! Battle Mages are providing good business for the newly opened Guild Stores, equipping themselves with various magical artifacts to give their guilds an edge over rivals. There's plenty of inventory, so get down to your local Guild Store and satisfy that shopping itch today!*

![To receive SPS or merits, the store must be at least level 1](/files/Px3ICe2ifzH0s1pjDuFP)

1. **Merit bonuses** - The higher the Store level, the more Merits you will win as rewards for Brawl participation. These Merit bonuses will also apply to Merits earned from tiers advancement chests and shop chests. To be eligible to receive Merits from a brawl, your guild must have at least a level 1 Store, so constructing this building right away should be a priority.
2. **Store items** - Reaching certain levels will unlock new items, which will then be purchasable in the Store. Guilds should strive to reach Store level 2 as quickly as possible, as that unlocks Gladius Cases for purchase.

<figure><img src="/files/b7qUEch2TqwQ1SqrnZcx" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Level:** Increasing your store level improves your Merit bonus while also unlocking new items for purchase.

**Cost:** Store construction requires a cost in both Guild Power and Crowns. Crowns are awarded to guilds that participate in Brawls. Once Guild Power requirements have been met, a guild co-leader or leader may pay construction costs from the guild’s Crown balance.

**Merit Bonus:** This shows the percentage of merit bonuses received per store level. Many items in [Splinterlands](https://splinterlands.com/?p=shop\&tab=guild) can only be purchased by merits.

**Inventory:** As new items get unlocked, these items get added to the store’s inventory for purchase at the individual levels.

***

#### Buying Store Items

To go shopping at your Guild Store, click the VISIT STORE button from the guild building page, or navigate to the GUILD tab of the Splinterlands shop screen (the GUILD tab will not be visible unless you belong to a guild that has at least a level 1 Store):

<figure><img src="/files/NE6IZzwWuNgvBvaidHmC" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Store items cost a mix of both Merits and Crowns. Items purchasable for Crowns are things that benefit the guild as a whole. Items purchasable for Merits will benefit individual players.

&#x20;

The items currently available are:

* **Gladius Cases** - Gladiator card packs. Like the Gladiators themselves, Gladius Cases are SoulBound (cannot be transferred to other accounts or sold on external marketplaces).
* **Spy Glasses** - Useful magical gadgets sold for Crowns, which allow your guild to spy on other guilds during the Prep Stage. Guild Leaders should strive to always keep a couple of these on hand.
* **Blood Stones** - an analog of Legendary Potions, these magical stones allow Battle Mages to double their chances of receiving Legendary cards when opening Gladius Cases.
* **Power Stones** - an analog of Alchemy Potions, Battle Mages use these to focus their concentration and double the chances of receiving Gold Foil cards when opening Gladius Cases.

Note: Legendary Potions and Alchemy Potions DO NOT work on Gladius Cases.

# Crowns

Crowns are the cooperative Guild currency that are earned for victories in Brawls.

<img src="/files/60pDO8pqceHDnI0oyy0K" alt="" width="188">

### What Are Crowns? <a href="#what-are-crowns" id="what-are-crowns"></a>

Crowns are awarded to guilds that participate in Brawls. The Higher the Arena level and Player participation, the higher the number of Crowns a guild stands to win.

### How are Crowns Calculated? <a href="#how-are-crowns-calculated" id="how-are-crowns-calculated"></a>

First, calculate the size of the overall Brawl crown pot. Each player in each guild that wins or draws at least 1 battle contributes crowns to the pot as per their guild's Arena level (see Rewards multiplier on Arena Info pop-up). Note that if your guild is participating in a lower Brawl Tier than your Arena allows for, it will be as if the Arena level is limited to that particular Tier.

The #1 guild in the Brawl is given 6% of the crown pot.\
The #2 guild in the Brawl is given 4% of the crown pot.\
The #3 guild in the Brawl is given 2% of the crown pot.

The remaining 88% of the crown pot is divided up amongst ALL guilds in the Brawl (including the top 3), proportionally according to each guild's points score vs. the sum of all pts for the Brawl.

Any fractional amounts in those calculations get rounded down to whole numbers.

You can click the Brawl Rewards button at any time to see a prediction of CROWN payouts to winning guilds. It's an estimated range. The low number of the range is what would happen if the Brawl finished at this exact moment, with no further player participation. The high number of the range is what would happen if every guild played optimally from this point onward to the end of the Brawl. Most likely the actual result will end up being somewhere in the middle of the range. As the Brawl progresses, the range narrows and changes as uncertainty in the outcome gradually reduces.

### What are Crowns used for <a href="#what-are-crowns-used-for" id="what-are-crowns-used-for"></a>

Crowns that are awarded to the guild can be used by Guild leaders and co-leaders to upgrade the Guild Arena, Guild Barracks, and Guild Store once the cumulative DEC requirements on said buildings have been met.

Crowns can also be used by Guild leaders and co-leaders to purchase selected items in the Guild Store that costs Crowns.

# Merits

![](/files/7QSvVCBjBBdUkl1O8pMw)

Merits are a non-transferable guild currency used to buy items in the Guild Store. Everyone who participates in a Brawl will receive Merits when the Brawl ends.

### Earning Merits Through Brawl Participation:

There are two types of Brawl rewards: the guild wins Crowns and the individuals within the guild win Merits. As Brawling is a team sport, **every participant in a given guild, who submits at least 75% of their battles will receive the same amount of merits**, regardless of win/loss/draw record. However, these amounts will differ from guild to guild.

The Brawl Rewards pop-up provides an estimate of how many Merits you can expect to receive under ideal conditions:<br>

<figure><img src="/files/JQTT9IJR6BceXPeVZI5y" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

***Full Merits will be awarded to guild members who submit teams for at least 75% of their Fray battles. If you submit less than 75% of your battles (i.e. more than 25% are flees), then the amount of Merits you receive will be reduced proportionally.***

This chart shows how many Merits you would receive under different circumstances:

**Example:** Your guild won 30 Crowns in a 2-Star Brawl and has a level 3 Store, then the total Merits per Guild member would receive 1313 Merits.\
(30 x 500 x 1.4) / 16 = 1312.5 (rounded to the nearest whole number).

![](/files/u69wKow5PcMQ2ilkFvaa)

You will not get penalized if your opponent flees and you automatically get a win. That counts as a submitted team for your Merit Reward. Also, if you don't have any battles because no other guilds filled your Fray, you are awarded wins for each opposing guild that does not enter the fray and you get full Merits as a reward for defending an empty Fray.

### Earning Merits Through Ranked Battles:

Merits can be found in approximately 30-20% of [Glint Shop Loot Chests.](https://docs.splinterlands.com/rewards/loot-chests) The number of Merits received from a chest is randomly determined, higher rarity chests will contain far more Merits, on average, than lower rarity chests.

### Earning Merits Burning Gladius Cards:

The Merits burn value of a card is also equivalent to its Collection Power value which is always displayed next to the cards you own on the Collection page:

<figure><img src="/files/QT7yMMXzDuPC9tNMwwz2" alt=""><figcaption><p>Select the check mark and click the pointed icon to receive the number of power-related Merits</p></figcaption></figure>

# Brawls

Brawls are large-scale tournaments in which Guilds fight together against other Guilds, competing to earn Crowns and racing to level their Arenas.

### What is a Brawl?

Brawls are Guild vs Guild arena combat, similar to Anytime tournaments, but with several guilds, all facing off against each other and more emphasis on teamwork with your guildmates rather than rewarding individual performance.

Not all Guilds fight in the same brawl. There can be many Brawls ongoing simultaneously. Up to 10 guilds of the same Tier are randomly grouped together for each Brawl.

### Brawl Cycles

Brawls follow a continuously repeating 5-day cycle, broken down into phases as follows:

<figure><img src="/files/S0gIXt8lniaFQaWAa7Lu" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* **Phase 1 - Prep Stage**: (2 days) In this phase, guild members decide which Frays they would like to join before the combat starts. A Fray is analogous to Anytime tournament groups, except each Fray has different level limits, card editions, and allowed foils. So you can pick Frays that are best suited to your play style and individual strengths.

<figure><img src="/files/IEBU9llzMPVQa10wCCpC" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* **Phase 2 - Combat Stage**: (2 days) This stage is similar to a traditional Anytime tournament. You'll have 48 hours to select teams for all your battles, and you will fight the players in other guilds who also joined the same Fray.
* **Phase 3 - Results Stage**: (1 day) Once the combat is over, you can see the results of the Brawl - how guilds performed relative to one another, how many CROWNS each guild won, and how many Merits each participating member of the guild won. In this stage, you can decide if you want to spend any of your guild's winnings on building upgrades or adjust settings for the next Brawl cycle.

Just like Anytime tournaments, you can participate at any time during each phase, there is no need to be logged on at a specific time.

Note: A Brawl cycle can be extended by a day if it ends during one of our planned maintenance windows.

### How to Participate

To participate in a brawl, you must be in a guild, and your guild must have at least a level 1 Arena building. The Arena building can be constructed by guild members contributing 10k Guild Power and then requires Guild Power and CROWNS in order to level up beyond that.

Once a guild has an Arena, then the leader or officers can click on the "Settings" button in the Brawl tab and set the Brawl status to "Active". When the brawl starts, all guilds that have built an Arena and have set their brawl status to "Active" will be entered into the brawl.

Guild leaders or officers can set their brawl status to "Inactive" at any time which means that the guild will not participate in new brawls until it is set back to "Active", even if they have built the Arena building.

For participating in Brawls, guilds earn Crowns, and participating members of the guild are awarded Merits. These are special, non-transferable, non-tradeable guild currencies that will allow the guild to upgrade the Arena and other future buildings as well as to be able to purchase items for the guild in the guild shop.

### **Brawl Frays**

During the prep stage, each guild member can choose one of the available Frays to fight in. A Fray is similar to Anytime tournament groups, except each Fray has different level limits, card editions, and allowed foils. So you can pick a Fray that is best suited to your play style and individual strengths, to battle against all the players from other guilds who choose the same Fray.

Your Guild does not have to fill all their frays in a brawl, some can be left open. Some guilds might not be able to fill all Frays, and this is perfectly fine. However unfilled frays will count as free wins for your opponents and the more Frays your guild fills, the more potential CROWN rewards can be won.

![](/files/nEYCAoruY1CMqebvOrBy)

### Brawl Tiers <a href="#brawl-tiers" id="brawl-tiers"></a>

Brawl Tiers can range from 1 star to 5 stars. Guilds that are in the same Tier will be matched against each other. Higher Tiers generally mean more guild members can participate at once, the Frays are more challenging, and the potential CROWN & MERITS rewards are greater.

When a guild upgrades to the next Tier, [certain frays are added or removed](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/12541736342932-Guild-Brawl-Tiers-Frays-Sets). This is pretty critical information for guilds that are on the border of upgrading but don't know what frays they will be facing when doing so.

# SPS Rewards

### SPS Rewards for Guild Brawls <a href="#sps-rewards-for-guild-brawls" id="sps-rewards-for-guild-brawls"></a>

As per the SPS whitepaper, there are 2.5M SPS allocated for guild brawls per month (reducing at a rate of 1% per month), which will be distributed as follows.

The breakdown of the overall reward pool by brawl tier is shown in the following table:

<figure><img src="/files/kWAlqCZQudACnITTIrAo" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

When the rewards are paid out at the end of a Brawl, the SPS per tier per Brawl Cycle (shown in the table above) gets divided equally by the number of individual Brawls in each tier for any given Cycle. At this point, fractions are rounded to 3 decimal places. The result is the prize pot for each Brawl.

The share of the prize pot that each participating guild gets is proportional to the points of the guild in relation to the total points for that particular Brawl. This means that SPS rewards will be greater for guilds that get the most points from battles. This is almost the same as the method for dividing the Crown pot, except there is no bonus amount for the Top 3 guilds as there is for Crowns.

The SPS awarded to each guild gets divided by the number of Frays for that tier to arrive at the max amount of staked SPS that can be given to each participating guild member.

Each guild member’s staked SPS share is determined following:

* Only guild members who submit at least 75% of their battles (i.e. have 25% or less unsubmitted battles) for a given Brawl are eligible to receive the full SPS amount for rewarding individual participation. Alternatively, the amount of SPS given is proportional to the number of battles submitted; for example, submitting 3/5 battles = 60% of the full amount of SPS.

All unearned SPS will be sent to the DAO. Future proposal votes could allocate this SPS in any way the DAO agrees.

#### Please Note <a href="#please-note" id="please-note"></a>

* If fewer than 10 guilds actively participate in a brawl tier, then the total rewards available for that tier will be reduced proportionately. For example, if only a single guild in a tier exists, then only 10% of the total SPS rewards would be available for that tier. Similarly, if there are 3 guilds in a tier, then 30% of the rewards would be available, etc. until there are 10 or more guilds, at which point 100% of the rewards are available.
* If there is only a single guild in a brawl tier, the current behavior of the guild getting automatically moved down to the nearest non-empty tier will still occur. This is done so that such a guild will still have the fun of brawling in addition to an extra SPS reward. This is another way to ensure guilds do not feel hesitant about moving up in tiers and recognize the phenomenal achievement of a guild that has beaten all others to become the first to reach a higher tier.

# Gladiator Cards

*All across Praetoria, people can't stop talking about the Gladiators, a group of elite warriors who have answered the call for participants to join the great Guild Brawls! The Gladiators are drawn from all races & creeds, a diverse group gathered from scattered locations throughout the Splinterlands. Now their training is nearing completion, and soon Battle Mages will be able to draw on their services to achieve much glory in the Brawls to come!*

#### Gladius Cases <a href="#introducing-the-gladius-cases-gladiator-edition" id="introducing-the-gladius-cases-gladiator-edition"></a>

Gladius Case is a type of card pack available for sale exclusively in the Guild Store. As with other card packs, each Gladius Case will contain 5 random cards from the Gladius Gladiator Edition, one of which is guaranteed to be rare or better. The chances of getting common, rare, epic, legendary, or gold foil cards are the same as with other packs.

![](/files/FWMkbU8ikDD3NmUaotlv)

#### How do I get Gladius Cases?

1. You must belong to a guild that has at least a level 2 Store (and a level 2 Barracks if you want to actually use your Gladiators in battle).
2. Participate in Brawls and win Merits or Participate in ranked battles to earn [Loot Chests](https://docs.splinterlands.com/rewards/loot-chests) that may contain Merits.
3. Visit the GUILD tab of the Shop page.
4. Spend your Merits to buy Gladius Cases (you can't buy them with DEC or Credits).
5. Open your Gladius Cases in the Mana Well just like other card packs.

<figure><img src="/files/24dzo3yYJtG2bYxQ4me6" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Once you have some Gladiators, they belong to your individual account (SoulBound), not your guild. So if you leave your guild and join another, you can still use your Gladiators and Merits in the new guild.

***

#### Characteristics of Gladiators

Gladiator cards are rather special. They are more powerful than normal cards, and intended to act as team captains, leading your monsters into battle. As such they are subject to some additional usage rules that don't apply to normal cards.

* **SoulBound** - Gladiator cards cannot be traded, delegated, rented, or sold. Gladius Cases themselves are also SoulBound, as are Merits.
* **Can be playable Outside Brawls** - these cards can be used in normal Ranked Battles or Tournaments if the **Are You Not Entertained?** ruleset is available.&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/5ZelqJbd3Z4znyL4lzBc" alt="" width="75"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* **Only 1 per team per battle** - However, you can use up to 3 Gladiators in a single battle if the **Are you not entertained?** ruleset is present and you **use a Summoner with Conscript.**
* **No pack limit** - as these cards are SoulBound, there is no limit to the number of Gladius Cases that can be purchased in the Guild Store.
* **No Legendary & Alchemy Potions** - potions don't work on these cards. Instead, you can use [Blood Stones & Power Stones](https://peakd.com/splinterlands/@cryptomancer/splinterlands-guild-store-a-place-to-spend-your-brawl-rewards) which work similarly to potions.
* **Additional level limit constraints** - As [explained here](https://peakd.com/splinterlands/@cryptomancer/splinterlands-barracks-train-your-teams-to-perform-better-in-brawls), in addition to normal Fray level limits, Gladiators are also subject to the level limits allowed by Unleash I / II / III / IV Barracks Tactics.
* **Burnable for Merits** - Gladiators can also be converted to [Merits](https://docs.splinterlands.com/guilds/merits).

&#x20;

There's also one more very big distinction between Gladiators and other cards:

![](/files/IOrdxAoHqEKp0tG1vpiU)

All 32 cards of the Gladius Edition have an ability called Bloodlust:

*Gladiators revel in the glory of combat and draw strength from each kill, becoming more dangerous as the battle goes on. **Every time a Gladiator defeats an opponent, he/she gets +1 to all initially non-zero stats, but carefull, it can be dispelled.***

This ability also applies to passive kills, i.e. if a Gladiator defeats an opponent through something like Thorns, Return Fire, Magic Reflect, etc, Bloodlust still gets triggered.

Bloodlust is an incredibly powerful ability, and we're sure you will find all sorts of imaginative ways to combo it with other abilities to give your teams an edge against rival guilds!

<figure><img src="/files/hTuSbkwbfsaV0VzP04xx" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### In order to use Gladiators in a brawl: <a href="#in-order-to-use-gladiators" id="in-order-to-use-gladiators"></a>

**The Guild Store should be at least Level 2** - so you can start collecting Gladiator cards (level 2 unlocks Gladius Cases for purchase).

**Barracks should be at least Level 2** - unlocks Unleash I, allowing you to use Gladiator cards.

# Hive Engine

HIVE-Engine is the decentralized exchange for Dark Energy Crystals on the HIVE blockchain.

**Because your Splinterlands account is also a HIVE blockchain account, you are able to use it to transact on the decentralized exchange (DEX) at** [**HIVE-Engine.com**](https://hive-engine.com/)**.**

## **Buying DEC on HIVE-Engine** <a href="#buying-dec-on-hive-engine" id="buying-dec-on-hive-engine"></a>

&#x20;

**Because your Splinterlands account is also a HIVE blockchain account, once you have purchased the Spellbook, you can use it to transact on the decentralized exchange (DEX) at** [**HIVE-Engine.com**](https://hive-engine.com/)**.**

### **Buying Through HIVE-Engine Directly** <a href="#buying-through-hive-engine-directly" id="buying-through-hive-engine-directly"></a>

&#x20;

By purchasing your DEC directly from the HIVE-Engine DEX, you can avoid the processing fee applied by the Splinterlands method, but there are a few additional steps.

&#x20;

**Depositing HIVE into HIVE-Engine**

1. Acquire HIVE tokens in your HIVE account wallet.
2. Sign in to [HIVE-Engine.com](http://hive-engine.com/) with your HIVE account and go to your **Wallet** page.
3. Click **Deposit** at the top of the screen

<figure><img src="/files/scRrrY3SOR0dGmP9Xx7T" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

&#x20;

4. Select **HIVE** as the currency that you would like to deposit from the dropdown menu.

&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/HJ2uA1ijXAZTOsxwvi0C" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

5. Enter the amount of HIVE you would like to deposit. It will be converted to **SWAP.HIVE,** which you can use to purchase DEC from the DEX.

<figure><img src="/files/LMXfexEk4J2gCWl5ulju" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

&#x20;

**Purchasing DEC with SWAP.HIVE**

1. Navigate to the Market page on HIVE-Engine.
2. Select the DEC token from the dropdown menu.

<figure><img src="/files/WA83x4JTuwYah8zLAFdP" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. Scroll down to **Buy Orders** and **Sell Orders** and locate the cheapest *Sell Order* that offers the quantity of DEC you are looking for.

<figure><img src="/files/zTZEQTGYHbcMiIk0NoZI" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

4. Enter the *Price* of that Sell Order in the Price field under **Buy DEC** and the desired quantity to buy. Also, you can click the ASK value to autofill the price and modify the desired amount to buy.
5. Double-check the price and quantity, then place your Buy Order. If you have done it correctly, it will be filled immediately if you create a Buy Order with a lower price than those currently offered, it will appear in the Buy Orders list until someone creates a Sell Order whose price matches your Buy Order.

## Selling DEC on HIVE-Engine <a href="#selling-dec-on-hive-engine" id="selling-dec-on-hive-engine"></a>

Selling DEC on HIVE-Engine is very similar to the above process of *buying DEC on HIVE-Engine.*

1. Start with the [DEC Market Page](https://hive-engine.com/?p=market\&t=DEC).
2. Create a **Sell Order** by filling out the **Sell DEC** section. If you match the price of your Sell Order to the price of one of the open Buy Orders on the list, it will be filled immediately. If you create a Sell Order that is more expensive than the Buys currently available, it will be listed as an open Sell Order and be filled when someone places a corresponding Buy.
3. When filled, you will be paid in **SWAP.HIVE,** which can then be withdrawn to an external wallet (such as an exchange) or traded for one of the other **SWAP.** pegged cryptocurrencies on HIVE-Engine (BTC, LTC, ETH, BAT, etc.) that can then be withdrawn to the wallet of your choice.

## Transferring DEC in/out of Splinterlands <a href="#transferring-dec-in-out-of-splinterlands" id="transferring-dec-in-out-of-splinterlands"></a>

All transfers of DEC to and from external sites and blockchains are simple when your wallet is linked to your Splinterlands account.

When you click on your DEC balance in Splinterlands, you'll find all your DEC balance details.

<figure><img src="/files/J3EjKxD40xF6foLmV6wm" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You can click the Transfer Button to get the **DEC Transfer Page.** With this page, you can transfer DEC in or out of any of your linked wallets, including HIVE-Engine, Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, and other players.

<figure><img src="/files/4D3vhIECG0BpU1ijnKyP" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

To transfer DEC to HIVE-Engine from Splinterlands, input the amount of DEC you wish to transfer and select **From** In Game **To** Hive Engine In the dropdown menu. Then click **TRANSFER,** and the DEC will be immediately added to your HIVE-Engine wallet.

<figure><img src="/files/BnCS0gxllzKjhnDAemGQ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

To transfer DEC **From** HIVE-Engine **To** In Game just pick the correct order in the Dropdown menu, fill in the amount, and click **TRANSFER**. The transferred DEC will then show up in your in-game balance in moments.

<figure><img src="/files/K2KPJUl8JUBK5VHDRnQt" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Providing Liquidity (DEC)

Decentralized Exchanges require liquidity provided by users. These are the various places you can provide liquidity in DEC.

The SPS DAO rewards players who support the health of our token economies. Decentralized reserves set up for the purpose of swapping between two currencies are known as Liquidity Pools. Players who stake their funds within these reserves will qualify to claim ongoing distributions of SPS.

### Providing DEC Liquidity <a href="#providing-dec-liquidity" id="providing-dec-liquidity"></a>

<figure><img src="/files/Ra3WT3xtt33Scov5zviY" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

By going to the [SPS management page](https://splinterlands.com/dashboard/sps) and then selecting the [Pools tab](https://splinterlands.com/dashboard/pools) you can quickly and easily select the DEC liquidity pool that you would like to participate in from the onscreen selection and then click on Manage Liquidity to be redirected to the relevant Liquidity Pool.

DEC Liquidity can be provided on [**Tribaldex**](https://docs.splinterlands.com/dark-energy-crystals/providing-liquidity/tribaldex-diesel-pools-hive)

#### DEC Liquidity Pool Rewards

Once you have provided DEC Liquidity on one of the selected Liquidity Pools, you will automatically be eligible to receive Liquidity Pool Rewards from the associated DEC liquidity Pool.

Currently, the DEC reward pool is 1,025K SPS per month for liquidity provider rewards for DEC pools which will be allocated as follows:

* 200K SPS / Month - DEC-HIVE Pool on [TribalDex](https://docs.splinterlands.com/dark-energy-crystals/providing-liquidity/tribaldex-diesel-pools-hive)
* 825K SPS / Month - SPS-DEC Pool on [TribalDex](https://docs.splinterlands.com/dark-energy-crystals/providing-liquidity/tribaldex-diesel-pools-hive)

#### Claiming DEC Liquidity Pool Rewards

Once you have provided liquidity to a liquidity pool, you can claim your rewards by going to the SPS management page and then selecting the Pools tab. Search for the Liquidity pool that you would like to claim the rewards of and then click the Claim button to claim your rewards directly to your Splinterlands account straight from your User Interface.

# Splintershards (SPS)

Splintershards (SPS) is the official governance token of Splinterlands

![](/files/-MaouPL_s_prcaXjTac-)

## [Read the SPS Whitepaper Documentation](https://sps.splinterlands.com/)

##

# Staking Splintershards

Staking Splintershards is a simple way to earn greater rewards and perks for holding the token within Splinterlands.

<figure><img src="/files/wx0phyoaHhfTVZ7bo876" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Staking

Staking is a way of *locking* up your SPS for additional rewards. Staked SPS cannot be spent or transferred out of your account.

Once staked, SPS tokens are subject to an unstaking period of 4 weeks. Once the unstaking of tokens has been initiated, they will be released into your in-game/liquid balance at a rate of 1/4 of the unstaked amount per week, for 4 weeks.

<figure><img src="/files/xRizyEI8YfZnCIRw9i3l" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

*Please note that all SPS rewards earned from ranked battle victory, and Validator Node license rewards are staked automatically once they are claimed.*

## Staking Rewards

Initial SPS staking rewards began on Monday, August 2nd, 2021. The total reward pool for staking SPS tokens started at 7.5 million tokens per month and decreases each month.

Each player's share of current staking rewards is based on the amount staked by that player and the total amount staked by all players.

Staking rewards are calculated and accumulated automatically and can be claimed anytime by the owner, at which point they are added to the player's liquid SPS balance.

##

## Additional Benefits

#### Governance Votes:

Staking SPS allows you to vote on governance proposals through the [in-game governance system](https://sps.splinterlands.com/in-game-governance).

#### Rewards multiplier:

Staking SPS gives the user a bonus for [ranked reward play](https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/articles/6614462185620-How-are-Rewards-Rshares-Calculated).

#### Vouchers: <a href="#vouchers" id="vouchers"></a>

[Vouchers](https://splinterlands.com/dashboard/vouchers) are awarded each day to players who stake Splintershards (SPS). The amount of vouchers received is determined by your percentage of staked SPS vs. the total amount of staked SPS by all users. Vouchers can be used in the [Exclusive voucher shop](https://splinterlands.com/shop/voucher) in-game.

# Moving Splintershards

These guides will help you move SPS to and from the Splinterlands game

## Claiming SPS <a href="#claiming-sps" id="claiming-sps"></a>

SPS earned from staked rewards and liquidity pools must be claimed before it is moved into your in-game/liquid balance (in Green below). SPS earned from Modern or Wild Ranked battles, Validator Node license rewards, Land, and Soulkeep will be directly added to your staked balance once you claim them (in Red below).

## Link External Wallets <a href="#link-external-wallets" id="link-external-wallets"></a>

You can link a BNB Smart Chain or Ethereum compatible wallet (Metamask recommended) to your Splinterlands account to move SPS between blockchains. Follow [this guide](https://docs.splinterlands.com/other-blockchains/binance-smart-chain-bsc/setting-up-bsc-on-metamask) to configure your Metamask wallet to interact with the BNB Smart Chain.

## Depositing SPS from an External Wallet <a href="#depositing-sps-from-an-external-wallet" id="depositing-sps-from-an-external-wallet"></a>

Ensure that all wallets with in-game assets are [linked to your account](https://docs.splinterlands.com/other-blockchains/linking-wallets).

To deposit SPS into your Splinterlands account, locate the **TRANSFER** button on the [SPS Management page](https://splinterlands.com/dashboard/sps).

<figure><img src="/files/cwqfA5RgXbtTVyAdTLJl" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Once you have clicked transfer, the transfer window will appear on your screen. Here you will first select where you are transferring the SPS **FROM** (in-game, Hive Engine, Ethereum, or BNB Smart Chain), then where are you are transferring to **TO** (if you select any of the 3 external wallets, it will default to in-game for this option). Then, enter the quantity of SPS to transfer, and click **Transfer**:
